It just seems odd to me that they finished producing battlefleets of one warship type, only to switch to another one within six months to two years...

They probably have multiple factories or something. One for ISDs, another for Vics and then another for Vents. Then the Vents got discontinued after a newer and better design was chosen and more ISDs or Vics were produced. Remember, this IS Star Wars, with an entire galaxy's worth of resources and stuff.

And as for the OT, makes sense for ISDs to be everywhere. I mean, the Imperials weren't fighting the Rebels with their Coast Guard, they were sending relatively modern fleets, with important folks like Darth Vader in 'em.

The Empire at War game will have some ROTS-elements. Will be interesting to see if any Venators show up there. There appears to be some type of next gen. SPHA-T, so anything´s possible.

Well, looking around, it seems the Venators were a bit too specialized (more of a dedicated carrier than the Jack-of-all-Trades functionality found in Victories and later Imperators) and underpowered for the Empire's needs.

Besides, the Empire had a reduced need for fleet carriers after the Clone Wars ended. It makes sense to have a multi-role ship like a Victory or an Imperator when your biggest enemies are either bands of pirates, or small groups of Rebel capital ships deploying relatively few starfighters.

Something to munch on:

The shape of the ray-shield that traped Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Palpatine was ellipsoid-shaped. Could this shape have been created by the interference between a ceiling and floor emmiter?
