Padme's Body

Post by Straha »

In the movie we see Padme collapse on Mustafar, get taken by C-3P0, Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Bail to the Rebel Base where she delivers her babies and dies WHILE Darth is being outfited with his suit. Yet, during the now infamous "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" scene Palps tells Vader that they found her dead at the scene, and we later see her funeral...

So, how is Padme's body in two places, in two different conditions, at the same time, and how does Bail drop her body off for burial (with faked pregnancy... which also begs the question of did the republic not know of Autopsies along with its lack of knowledge with Ultra-Sound imaging?) without some sort of raised eyebrow from Coruscant? (BTW, before people say Palps lied outright, he had to have found something there, otherwise he wouldn't have known she had been there, and that Vader had force choked her...)

Palpatine just tells him that she's dead and that Vader killed her. He most likely found out because her death was probably announced to the general Galaxy as part of the news or recieved information due to his position as the Emperor.

Also, about the happening at the same time business, it's called non-chronological editing.

He never says dead at the scene. Where the hell did that come from? Palpatine's words were: "I'm afraid in your anger you killed her."

As for the rest, I'm not really sure. Perhaps Bail used what little influence he had left to push through her funeral.

Doesn't the VD answer some of this stuff, anyway? Or the novelisation?

They probably did not want Padmes body autopsied. Families today are given that choice and likely no official coroner from the republic/empire ever got to see her body because if they did the whole secret is out.

Another question is how often did Vader come to visit her grave in the following years. One couldn't imagine him dropping off a handful of roses for her tombstone...but then again, stranger things are known to happen.

I don't think he ever did. Anakin Skywalker was "dead".

And burying a 'pregnant' Padme further helps hide the kids. Certainly, strings were pulled by Senator Organa to keep it all going smoothly.

No, it was more extensive than just shoving a couch pillow up her skirt. The RotS VD says that Organa and the Naboo made Padme up so that she would still appear to be pregnant when she was burried, to imply that her child died with her.

Does that mean that the alteration is not merely cosmetic, but they actually, uh..., surgically stuffed a sandbag (or something equivalent) in there?

Well not something so crude, but basically yes, if I recall and understand the text from the book well enough.

Actually I think the alteration might have been performed before they reached Naboo, at Polis Masa.

It's not impossible that it's forbidden to do any type of autopy on a former queen. I think it's forbidden for an autopsy to be performed on a dead pope.

In the VD, it's stated that they do not ask questions about the origin of illegitimate children in Naboo. This might relate to why no one bothered with an autopsy.
