Anakin and Obi-Wan
One thing that I think was a clear improvement from AOTC is the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan. In AOTC we see a lot of Obi-Wan cutting Anakin off at the knees, giving Anakin orders, and correcting him. In ROTS, we clearly have a relationship of mutual respect and affection. Obi-Wan seems much more sensitive to Anakin's emotional state.
He lets Anakin have the spotlight after the Chanceller's rescue. He reminds Anakin that he is the youngest person ever to join the Jedi Council and that he will undoubtedly be promoted to master soon. There is much more give and take in their conversation and Anakin looks to Obi-Wan more as a friend and a mentor than as his boss.
The dialogue isn't just better written than AOTC, it is crucial to the movie. There has to be a close relationship for Anakin's betrayel to have its full impact and Obi-Wan's rage and pain on Mustafar to ring true. It is, in my opinion, one of the most important improvements in the prequel trilogy.

Yeah, I know. What I'm saying is that Clone Wars shows the change, whereas people just watching episode 2 and 3 see a sudden difference. One second he's the disobedient apprentice and the next they are best buddies.Imperial Overlord wrote:I've only seen part of the Clone Wars cartoon, but they weren't writing ROTS, Lucas was.
In the Clone Wars cartoon, the later chapters, they develop more into friends. Anakin and Obi's last big onscreen arguement was just before Anakin's knighting ceremony. After that they are assigned as equals on missions and work together better.

It isn't merely a change in their being master and apprentice. Obi-Wan rides Anakin pretty hard in AOTC and their relationship seems quite hostile and unpleasant. In ROTS the line "I loved you like a brother," does seem appropriate to their relationship.

[/size][/i]Yes he does, but I wouldn't call it hostile or unpleasant. Friends can get upset at each other, but the way some people carry on it's like they're horrified that Obi-wan and Anakin weren't bumbuddies in AOTC.Imperial Overlord wrote:It isn't merely a change in their being master and apprentice. If anything, the relationship they have in AOTC hints at an underlying resentment on Anakin's part about being treated like an inferior, while at the same time it underscores Obi-wan's own shoddy teaching (remember he blames himself later on in ANH when he's talking to Luke).
