The prophecy was that he would destroy the Sith. It's possible that in the alternate sequence of events that Qui-Gon's survival would set in motion might have Anakin destroying the Sith two decades earlier than he would have otherwise.

Regardless, when discussing alternate courses of events, prophecies aren't to be considered. The point is that we're talking about hypothetical scenarios that didn't happen.

Shifting the subject to Obi-Wan for a moment, recall that Qui-Gon only declared that Obi-Wan was ready for the trials because he wanted to free up his apprentice slot, to take Anakin as Padawan.
Perhaps Obi-Wan wasn't ready to become a Knight at the time, after all. He certainly wasn't ready to take on an apprentice.. that much is clearly evident.

The prophecy was that he would destroy the Sith
Hmmm, I thought when Windu and other said that Yoda replied with "a misread prophecy, we have here". Besides, I never heard that the prophecy was Anakin would destroy the sith its he will bring balance to the force. It means everything to it because no matter what Anakin WAS destined to turn, to destroy the ranks of the jedi and bring equal amount of sith and jedi in the galaxy, whether qui-gon was alive or not.

Besides, from a plot standpoint, Lucas needed someone to show Obi-Wan how to become one with the force and come back from death.

Good lord, man, are you thick or something?

The purpose of this entire thread is to discuss a hypothetical situation, not discuss why it didn't happen.

I think I may write a fan-fiction on it.

Qui-Gon survives, the council dienes him the right to train Anakin. He says he will anyways, the council exiles the 2. Events unfold according to Palpatines plans, then the master and apperentice return from exile. (Intresting senarios would occur, master and student would face off Qui-Gon and Dukoo.) To me it would be a very intresting idea.

Spartan wrote:It obvious that Anakin had formed a very strong bond with Qui-gon. Which is why in the CW vol 1. He tells Obi-wan "Your no Qui-gon Jinn!". Hell Qui-gon was the only one other than Palpatine that ever believed in the boy. Even Obi-wan was against taking the boy on originally, he only doesit out of love for Qui-gon. The duel between Anakin and Obi-wan nearly brought me to tears. How much more emotional impact would a duel between Anakin and Qui-gon have had.
Before I saw the movie, I was talking with my brother about this, and I said, a bit flippantly, "Well maybe Anakin saw Qui-gon as the father he never had. Maybe he'd be away from Mommy for a while, but he'd be with Daddy and they'd figure something out (and according to the books he did). But then, Qui-gon gets killed, so the Council says to him, 'Sorry your father died. You'll have to be brought up by your slightly older brother (who doesn't really much care for you) now.' Now let's go watch the cremation, shall we?"

I forgot about it until Obi-wan told Anakin that he was like a brother to him, and then I remembered that and cursed being right.

Hmm, that whole viewpoint puts an interesting spin on things, and sounds about right.
I never thought of Anakin looking at Qui-Gon like a father.
