Is is hard for Americans to work or go to school in Canada? When I was in Whistler an Australian girl that worked there gave me the impression that people from Commenwealth countries get priority.

I would'nt mind doing some sort term work up there. I like BC a lot.

It's interesting that the picture actually shows the area of the world where America isn't present. Are they encouraging vigilance against forigners? Or vigilance against the ethnic minorities which are more distinguishable than someone with an Anglo background?

Now, I'm not all that familiar with the U.S. Constitution (I'm Canadian), but is this kind of thing even legal? You would think that it would violate some ammendment or something.

Wanna know the problem with that system...

It is in theory limited to the US. In reality they can make it as far reaching as they want and very few nations have the resources to stop that kind of prying.

Since the ACLU was kind enough to offer me the option to fax ole' Dubya, I decided to write a little letter.

I am frankly appalled at the wholesale slaughter that our freedoms as Americans have been going through since the events of September 11th, 2001.

Mr. President, it is your duty to protect the freedoms of Americans, and you've chosen to sweep those freedoms under the rug in a seemingly unending quest for blood and total control over every aspect of Americans' lives.

Snooping my private E-mail and cell-phone calls is something that requires a warrant. There is a good reason for this, and it's part of the Constitution. It's because all citizens are treated as innocent until proven guilty. This Information Awareness Office effectively assumes that all Americans terrorists and then hunts around their communiques in order to prove that assumption wrong. That isn't the way things work in this country.

During your tenure as president, I have become progressively more ashamed to call myself an American because of the ludicrous policies you and your administration have enacted. Please dissolve this Information Awareness Office and fire those responsible for spawning this atrocious idea. They are clearly un-American and have no regard for the freedoms which they are supposed to be protecting.

You don't fight terrorists by embracing their beliefs. Osama bin Laden believes in a totalitarian government without civil rights. This is what the United States is turning into with the Homeland Security Department, Information Awareness Office and the expansion on governmental surveillance powers. Are your plans to destroy the terrorists and then legitimize the ideas they embraced?

Be wary, Mr. President. You are are quickly becoming that which you claim to stand against. My freedoms are not for sale, and I refuse to sacrifice them in the name of some Holy War on terrorism. The Information Awareness Office must not be allowed to exist.

Once this office becomes official, and our E-mails start getting monitored, what say we just E-mail each other detailing false plans to bomb various cities? That way, once the Feds come to our doors, we can get the ACLU to back us up and take the office to court.

OH GOD NO!!! Not the all powerful all knowing governemnt that knows everything that I do and have bugs in my apartement and men in black hanging out on every corner.

I'm sorry, I just find it hard to believe that a governemnt that can't get its own act together will ever be able to do 1984 type totalatarianism. Its the same cry I've seen throughout US history whenever the Government expands its police powers, have their been abuses, hell yes, look at McCarthysim as a prime example (and the inspiration for the Night Watch) but was it self corrected? Yes. Were their casualties, Yes. But did McCarthyism take over the country and make us into a totalatarian state? Nope. Same things has happened all the way back to the Colonial era.

I know I'm liable to get flamed for this but quite frankly this does not seem to be any more threatening than Hoover's FBI or Joe McCarthy and we survived that.

The logo is kind of cheesy and you just KNOW a bunch of Illuminati freaks are gonna have a ball with it!

Bad idea, Damien. The government no longer recognizes your right to due process and a fair trial. They can lock you up indefinitely on suspicion of terrorism.
