It's probably 1000 years old, the same age as the current incarnation of the Republic. In making the prequels, Lucas forgot about Obi-Wan's 1000 generations line in ANH and instead made references to the destruction of the Sith and the formation of the Galactic Republic as being a mere 1000 years ago. Also, if the rumor of Episode 0 is true, Lucas intended the 1000 years to be a rounding up from 880 years or so, allowing a young Yoda to play a role in the destruction of the Sith and rebuilding of the Republic.

I thought the Republic was around for 25,000+ years.
Oh well.
They make reference to a Jedi temple on courscant in KOTOR, which is -4,000 pre empire.

Any ways, as others have hinted at, the Old Republic has existed for 25,000 years, but about 1,000 BBY the Final Sith War caused so much change and destruction in the galaxy (the specifics are fairly ambigus) the that Republic essentially scrapped its current Gov. body and started anew. It was also at this point the Jedi Order ceased being a military entity and focused on peace keeping.

A Sith War that makes for a reorganizing of the Republic does not make the Temple as old as it. i do not think that Lucas forgot about the 1000 generations line or he would have changed the timeline. The Jedi order has existed for that long but the Republic could have changed many times during that time. A generation is usually called out as 25 year so that is where the 25,000 years in the timeline comes from. It is 1,000 years since the last Sith War. The Sith lost its wars with the jedi because while the Jedi tend to work togather, the Sith are power hungery. They fight the Jedi and each other at the same time. A house divided and all that. This must be where the rull of two came from.Eframepilot wrote:It's probably 1000 years old, the same age as the current incarnation of the Republic. actually they say that High Council of the Jedi Order is in Corusant and IIRC they say outright that the Temple is in Corusant in Sith Lords (AKA KOTOR2)Drunk Monkey wrote:Didn’t they mention the temple being on Couracant in KOTOR, and that takes place about 5,000 years before ANH.

If I recall they moved everything to Coruscant when Ossus got hit with a supernova shockwave during the Great Sith War (the Exar Kun one, before all the KOTOR crap) about 4000 years ago.

Heres a question... If the Temple has been there for 1000+ years, why hasn't it 'sunk' into the constanly growing buildings around it?

Palpatine´s exact words are "...this Republic, which has stood for a thousand years...", thus implying more than one incarnation of it. It´s as if history goes in cycles: Republic established, Sith uprising/defeat, Republic re-established...In making the prequels, Lucas forgot about Obi-Wan's 1000 generations line in ANH and instead made references to the destruction of the Sith and the formation of the Galactic Republic as being a mere 1000 years ago.
Thought this might be the best place for these questions. Are the Jedi an official branch of the government? Is that where they get their funding/resources?
I'd assume they are part of the executive branch.
Also, when children are identified as having an affinity for the Force, are they forcibly taken from their parents by the Jedi, or is it the parent's choice whether their children are raised by the Jedi or not?

There was an Enclave there for training purposes (up until Malak destroyed it, anyway), but the Temple itself was on Coruscant.

if the alternate temple was on Dantooine, why were the Jedi pretty much wiped out when the temple on Dantooine was destroyed? that dosent make sense, the thing i want to know is how the hell did the Sith become so powerful in the 5ish years after KOTOR that they were able to wipe the Jedi out in time for KOTOR2, i mean my version has the Jedi/Republic mopping the floor of the Sith
