Another Creationism hate-mail

Post by Darth Wong »

Someone calling himself "Elim Garak" sent this one:
Dude, I was bored tonight, went to read what people were saying about Ep3, and wondered over to your creationist site.

As I said before, you sound like a complete jackass (well, partial jackass) there. Not because of your points, with which I totally agree (who is this god person anyway, and what's his/her/its address so I could go kick its ass) but because of the way you say things. From what I read of the e-mail threads on creationism the people were trying to be very polite to you. But you sounded extremely superioir and pissed off. Granted, you have a reason to feel that - which does not mean that it is polite to do so just because people were raised differently.

My guess is that most of these people either have blinders that they grew up with, or don't have a sufficient education to debate with you. In other words, all of them are "special" in their own ways. Doesn't mean you have to be snide with them even before they gave you a reason!

I'd love to know how anyone reads through those hate mails and concludes that I was unfair to the people who wrote them. Don't you love these "I completely agree with you, but ... it's wrong for you to act as though you know you're right" E-mails?

Just another idiot with the "Let's all act nice, okay, ya hear?" complex, obviously not realizing that the people who sent hate mail usually had no interest in listening, so there was no real need to be diplomatic to them as long as what you said made sense and wasn't just personal attacks.

The man is probably just another fundi standing up for his buddies. I can’t see how he can think you were being a jackass. The bigoted rednecks e-mailed you telling you how wrong you are, DW. When you are right about this stuff, and they’re telling you how hateful you are when they believe that the government style of the Dark Ages was the one that works.

As I recall from some snippets of ASVS history I've seen bandied about, this guy is probably one of the old time Trekkie trolls who reputedly had a very strong IWOI and has a grudge against you. I remember the name in that context. Some of the SB.com people probably know more.

And he's defending Creationism. Is anyone surprised?

Nitpick: he agreed that creationism was incorrect in his e-mail, so technically, he wasn't defending it. He was defending creationists, though.

What a myopic limp-dick. I suppose he typed that drivel up thinking it actually said anything of merit?

Makes me glad my webpage only generates two kinds of emails: positive praise/inqueries and positive vagueness/rambling.

I've read the Creationism hate-mail exchanges. Mike is certainly brusque, especially as they drag on, but nowhere near as nasty as he gets in the SWvST hate mail, which in turn is usually more restrained and polite than his posts in debates on the board.

Why do people think being civil extends to this?

For someone to think that civility can exist in these kinds of debates, it strikes me as naive, and almost as an excuse for a copout of "well, it's okay I still believe what I want at the end of the debate without taking anything you said into stock."

Is this the Elim from ASVS? Not that it's beyond possibility, I just found it somewhat odd.

Well, you are pissed off by creationism, right? Anyway, didn't their "polite" mails usually adress points that were covered on the site?

 The reason was given when they sent their bullshit hatemail. "Special", my ass. He maintains that perhaps they grew up with blinders or didn't receive an adequate education, but fails to point out why diplomacy is a better response to their nonsense.

Besides, if they read the site they know what to expect when writing you mail, don't they? Or perhaps not... perhaps you should put a label on your mailing link "Warning: if you send me hatemail, expect flames."
I'd love to know how anyone reads through those hate mails and concludes that I was unfair to the people who wrote them. Don't you love these "I completely agree with you, but ... it's wrong for you to act as though you know you're right" E-mails?
Bah, typical style over substance bullshit. Or perhaps he wants a "fair and balanced" treatment of the subject of evolution vs creation. I'd simply counter with "Don't cramp my style, man!"

Don't even use the words "Fair and Balanced." They give me migraines nowadays. :x

Well, Anton should know about people being awfully mean to him. Ever since days of the Elim Garak FAQ, his peers have shown the disconcerting habit of making him eat his many, many mistakes whenever they manifest.

Well, if it really is the same "Elim Garak" that used to spew his tripe on ASVS, it's not surprising that he is offended by contempt for stupidity in general. People always get emotional about something that hits close to home.

Okkkk

I suppose he must feel very special now.

One idea I have is to do what he says the opposite of doing - in which case, just be an asshole to him. I don't see any long term benefits, but I'd imagine it'd generate quite a satisfying feeling.

Thats IE 6.0 running under WinXP sp2 64bit.

64bit spyware cant run under 64bit IE. So there is jack and all spyware around for it, in addition to using service pack 2 lockdown of IE.

Please, keep the senseless bashing for stuff which actually should have it directed to it.

That should be 32bit spyware!

32bit DLLs/ActiveX just is not supported in a 64bit process under 64bit versions of windows. Same goes for 64bit DLLs/activeX under 32bit processes.
