Look, who gives a living fuck? I certainly don't. I'm sick of every little thing being screamingly touted as the end of the world if we don't stop it.

Quite a lot of people do give a living fuck and quite a lot more besides. Thi9s is the first time I've asked anyone on the board to write a letter of complaint to anyone over anything as far as I recall. I'm sick of the creationist crowd and their ID buttbuddies being viewed as anything more than the nutjobs they are by the general public, but when respected science institutions give them the time of day, that's the last goddamn straw. If you don't care about it personally, fine, don't write.

If you study the history of British Weapons Control, you'll see that their
MO is to constantly re-define what is considered "controlled weapons"
ever downwards to the point where they're raising trial balloons over
kitchen kives over a certain length after they banned switchblades, and
various implements such as Craftsman Leathermen, etc.

I'd like to make a detailed reply explaining how this is or more or less comparable to the threat of creationism, but I think it's already obvious.

We all KNOW that this kind of bullshit will be used by creationists to claim that there's actually scientific validation of this shit... I agree with LZ. Unless we actively participate in diminishing the effect of their bullshit on the world, things will only continue to get worse. If they can use their claims of scientific validation to push the political agenda of getting ID taught in schools, we're all fucked. If this shit goes to far, the nation will keep regressing in education. No more of this bullshit..

Why yes, the evil Creationists (TM) are going to ban every science book
in the country; and then burn them all in huge bonfires!

Ok, but don't bitch the next time someone ridicules the idea of the British banning letter-openers.

Worse... they start to fill science book with their shit and call it 'science'. And in 30 years the Lord's Prayer will be the main syllabus in high school science classes. It's your fucking country going down the drain, retard.

Done my bit.
Dear Mr. Kremer,

I write regarding the Smithsonian Institution's decision to screen the movie "The Privileged Planet: The Search for Purpose in the Universe." in the National Museum of Natural History. I find it outrageous that such an august institution was the Smithsonian would stoop to screening a movie which is effectively a propaganda film for intelligent design, a so-called scientific theory which has little scientific evidence and support among the scientific community.

While I recognise the fact that the Smithsonian has withdrawn co-sponsorship for the screening of this film, nevertheless the very act of allowing this movie to be shown in the Museum lends a false sheen of legitimacy to intelligent design, most particularly in the eyes of a non-scientifically-literate public.

I am concerned at recent trends towards pseudoscience and superstition in American society in general (and certain American institutions of education in particular), and I hope the Smithsonian will stand true to its role as a pillar of American science and arrest this worrying decline. Henceforth, I urge the Smithsonian to stop the screening of the abovementioned movie.

For the first time, the forces of logic and reason actually do something other than sit on their asses and say, "I boycott this!"

There better be a letter from every member on this board. Hell, I'll put the mailing address in my sig.

It's definitely 'cogito', not 'cognito'. It's an understandable mistake to relate the word to 'cognitation' in English, but it's not correct.

It doesn't, that would mean, roughly, "I am an Idea, thus." Cogito is the verb he wanted...
