Long Shot
Does anyone know what time the Long Shot (the Jedi expedition to leave the galaxy) departed?

They tried, but then a certain blue-skinned alien attacked them with a bunch of sentry ships and after that they were in too many pieces to leave the galaxy.
The Chiss mention it in the Hand of Thrawn Duology.

Ah. that's the name. WHere the hell did I get "long shot" from. Do you know when the new book's set then? (when exactly that is, rather than between Eps II and III, which I was guessing anyway)

Wasn't there a ship in one of the Ringworld books called the Long Shot?Lusankya wrote:Ah. that's the name. WHere the hell did I get "long shot" from. Do you know when the new book's set then? (when exactly that is, rather than between Eps II and III, which I was guessing anyway)

Yes, it was the Puppeteer-owned ship that Louis Wu, Teela, Nessus and Speaker-to-Animals used to get to the Ringworld.Drooling Iguana wrote:Wasn't there a ship in one of the Ringworld books called the Long Shot?Lusankya wrote:Ah. that's the name. About the ROTS opening battle (spoilers)
Everyone seemed to knew at which ship Palpatine was. Since a rescue operation still was going on, than why blow it to smithereens?

This is something I was going to ask about, so I'm glad this thread got started. It seems like this is the first outside the galaxy expedition that is made in the SW universe, which is very odd. Considering they have ships that can travel 20,000,000+ c on the low end, a jaunt to the nearest neighboring galaxy should only take about 1-2 months. Andromeda, if I'm not mistaken, is about 2,000,000 c from the Milky Way, so I'd figure distances in the SW universe would be comparable.
Any reason why this hasn't been attempted earlier, or has it but I'm not aware?

Does it state anywhere that this is the first one? Just the lastest, maybe best chance with 5 Jedi masters at the helm.Jason wrote:This is something I was going to ask about, so I'm glad this thread got started. There's only one Long Shot I know in Star Wars and it belongs to the Reekene Roughnecks in WEG's Star Wars RPG Campaign Pack way back when.

Uh, Dark Tide 1, Danni mentions its a theory, and that for all the galaxy knows its a temporary distrubance at some area, not galaxy wide.Crazedwraith wrote:In the NJO they stated there is a 'hyperspace disturbance' at the edge of the galaxy that prevent ships getting out. mainly because the inhabinents of the SW galaxy believed that there was a galactic barrier that damaged ships if they tried to pass it. Plus its pretty hard to use hyperspace in uncharted space. You can hop to close to a supernova or burn up inside a planet and that would end the trip real soon wouldnt it?Jason wrote:This is something I was going to ask about, so I'm glad this thread got started. "c" is a constant that denotes the velocity of light. It's not a unit of measurement of length.Jason wrote: Andromeda, if I'm not mistaken, is about 2,000,000 c from the Milky Way, so I'd figure distances in the SW universe would be comparable.

Also, the chances of running into a supernova or planet outside of a galaxy is downright infinitesimal. Even then, it can be offset even further by simply keeping your sensors on (we know using sensors to/from hyperspace are possible from ANH and ESB), or simply dropping out of hyperspace to scan ahead.
The most probable reason why they never explored outside their galaxy is because they never had any need to.

The name of The Intergalactic Banking Clan would suggest otherwise.

Why does a name have to dictate what the organization actually is? I mean, the World Series' name would suggest that it involves more than one nation, but it's US exclusive.YT300000 wrote:The name of The Intergalactic Banking Clan would suggest otherwise.
