at least mario 2 has an excuse for being so screwed up (though i actually enjoyed that game).
A lot of people did. SMB2 is regarded as being among the best games made.

With the reason being that the real Super Mario Bros. 2 (aka The Lost Levels) was apparently too hard for American audiences. That and it was roughly the same game as Super Mario Brothers, just with a high difficulty.

I agree with Spanky *gasp* on both his points. Zelda 2 *is* an oft overlooked classic. I think it complemented the series nicely. It was quite innovative in it's day and had immense replay value. Mario 2, as well, had depth to it that not many other titles at the time had. Though it seems simplistic now, remember back in the day? Eh? Wot? GR, you know what I'm talking about, Arguing with your buddies in the lunchline at school which character was best for beating the snow level? (The princess, DUH) Honestly, though different from the other SMB titles, I think SMB2 was a nice deviation from the norm, and, again, complements the entire series nicely. I also like the fact that it didn't have the standard princess kidnapped, kill bowser theme.

Provided they don't screw this up with a bunch of annoying gimmicks, I'd definately buying a Revolution, which means that it'll be the first non-handheld Nintendo console I've owned since the NES.

I just had a thought - what if they re-tooled older games to take support of on-line play? Christ, could you imagine the chaos of of a 30-man F-Zero X race or an 8-player Perfect Dark capture the briefcase game?

If they pulled something like that, I'd put down an order in an instant.
This has been another blunder by you friendly local idiot.

That would be ridiculously expensive for Nintendo, though. They would almost be better off making new games altogether, which would also be better able to take advantage of the hardware.

Still, though, the old games alone are worth the price of the system.

But it's also be available for release a lot sooner than a brand new F-Zero, so I highly doubt anyone here would care if it cost a little.

Well, there doesn't need to be 30 men races or 8 player death matches. But I don't see why you wouldn't be able to play with another online player with NES games, or with 3 other online players with the N64. After all, some emulators already have an online multiplayer option, using unmodified roms. I don't see why Nintendo can't do the same thing.

And I don't care how much I would have to pay 3DO, I would kill to play a four player online multiplayer game of Battletanx.

I wonder why they're unwilling to take a chance OUTSIDE OF A GIVEN A FRANCHISE which is already good. When you sell a "sequel" to a game that has an entirely different control scheme, feel, and totally different gameplay then of course people will be confused.

That has nothing at all to do with a gamemaker which starts a new franchise based solely around copying what other groups have already done in the genre.

Perhaps Rare will allow it. They're doing GBA games aren't they? Allowing Donkey Kong ports and all.

Forget re-tooling, just add tunnnelling support into the emulator. Very simple. Many emulators support this in fact.

Your rev connects to someone else's revolution, then you start the game, you see the same thing on the screen and they are like the second player.

No retooling of the game, but it is online. :D

I feel happy in a way I've not felt since losing my virginity.

This would be the first platform that I would buy since a SNES. Really. I've not owned a platform since that.

I wouldn't mind getting some of the first-party N64 games I sold w/o realizing they were decent enough that I would ever feel like playing them years later (Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64, for one. And oddly Pilotwings 64). If they added tunnelling like Praxis mentioned, that'd rock.

Free classic games and wireless internet built-in for free? It might as well spew gold from the DVD drive while it's at it. :D

I'm still chuckling at the fact that Mario's sworn nemesis is on Nintendo now. They really should do Nintendo vs. Sega.

The question is, which SMB3 will most people go for? Both the original NES version and the Allstars one will be available.

I'd go for the original, myself. The graphics were certainly better on Allstars, but there were a few annoying things that they changed, such as the fact that you can no longer tell if a given block has a mini-goomba inside until it jumps at you.
