I hope Squaresoft agrees with this, and releases FF1-3 for the Revolution. My batteries in the game pack gave out so I can't finish FF2 (I was at lvl 8 in the Moon), and ditto for FF3 (got to World of Ruin, and was leveling).

They rereleased those for the Playstation if you're interested (of course, as FF4 and FF6 in the "Chronicles" and "Anthology" packs respectively) and FF1 and FF2 as "Dawn of Souls" for the GBA.

If Squaresoft participates, we could also get Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG... that'd be freakin' sweet.

But if they do end up porting Sega games, I would buy the Revolution if they simply made Guardian Heroes available

Just to keep from getting anyone's hopes up:
Sorry to be so skeptical guys, but I think that source got it wrong. They are referring to George Harrison's recent interview with Gamespot (they cite it). Here is the important part, copied and pasted from the actual interview:

GS (Gamespot): Do you plan on having like a per-download pricing model along the lines of the microtransactions that will be used in the next-gen Xbox marketplace?

GH (George Harrison): Well, we can use it in a variety of ways. We've used some of the older games already as little bonuses, either as bonus gifts or hidden in levels of games. Certainly for the first-party titles we'll be making some of those available. We haven't really talked about whether we would sell them. The third parties can make their own decision whether they want to sell them, or maybe they will add it on as sort of a free benefit when you buy a current version of the game.

So he said they will use some first party games as little gifts and stuff, but he never said that all first party games will be available for free download. He just means that they will give some away...buy Smash Bros. Revolution and get the original SSB for free. Maybe they will include so for free at the system's launch. Sounds like a good idea to me. But to say that "Harrison then confirmed that past-gen, Nintendo-created titles will indeed be downloadable for free." is a hopeful, but uncertain interpretation of the interview.

Iwata, Miyamoto, and Reggie have all said that they probably will charge for the game downloads, although they will be very reasonably priced.

Here is the original full interview: Q&A: Nintendo VP George Harrison
Post from another board. He may or may not be right. For all we know, the gamespot interview could be older (I haven't checked the dates)
He did say some of the first party games will be made available and they haven't decided whether they will be selling or not. Well we'll see.

I'd go for the original, myself. The graphics were certainly better on Allstars, but there were a few annoying things that they changed, such as the fact that you can no longer tell if a given block has a mini-goomba inside until it jumps at you.
original for myself

but what the hell, its free so i'll take both :D

Third party, so no dice, but IIRC, there was a revamped version released for the GBA a while ago.

Anyone notice the 64 DD games made available?

It has Polygon Studio!

http://www.gamestats.com/objects/003/003769/

Will Nintendo release a mouse for it? Perhaps that is what the USB 2.0 ports are for? Or will the controllers be gyroscopic as rumored *everywhere* and that be usable as the mouse?

I believe the Revolution is supposed to be backwards compatible with the GC. You want to play a GC game, buy the disc. I could be wrong though...

Yep, the slot loading drive on the Revolution accepts GameCube disks as well. And the Rev takes GameCube memory cards. So you don't need to download them.

Jesus Jumped-up Christ, and that's just what's been announced now. The Revolution could have hundreds of games added to it in the year following release.

I mean, God damn, there are so many classic, overlooked, and sleeper titles up there that a lot of people either heard about and never got a chance to play or miss playing. This is amazing.

Holy shit, I'll finally be able to play Tetreisphere. I've had the soundtrack for that game for years and I've always wanted to play it...

Damn you, Nintendo, damn you!!! The last damned console I ever owned was an Atari 2600 owned by my parents. Yes, I played the old-school Nintendo games when I was at other kids' houses, but I was perfectly happy to be a pure PC gamer until the day I died, but nooo, you just had to go and do this to me.

I am so buying a Revolution. Now excuse me while I weep at the impending loss of my console-gaming virginity.

I'll say it again: the games alone are worth the price of the system. You're looking at hundreds, probably thousands of dollars worth of games, and with the convenience of playing them all on a single system--it's tough to beat that.

There is simply no way Sony or Microsoft can compete with this. You could go for years without actually purchasing a single game.

Well, that covers all the N64 games I sold but wanted to buy back (Mario 64, Pilotwings 64, Mario Kart 64), games I sold but had inklings of playing again (Just Blastcorps for now. That game really needed a 'time-attack clear-all' mode along with the regular time-attack you gained after clearing stage), and games I thought about getting but never did (waverace, 1080, Ep 1 racer, Yoshi's Story, Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie).

But what the hell is Buggie Boogie, now that I'm looking at the list? Wasn't that game cancelled in the alpha stages because the design team couldn't figure out what to do with the cartoonish offroad vehicles they designed?

I assume they are in fact savable into memory cards. A bunch of NES/SNES could fit onto a regular card, while I'd estimate most N64 games will need one for themselves. Perhaps Revolution's cards will be larger and easily fit a large N64 game on them, or several smaller ones.

Then there's at least half a dozen SNES games I don't own that I absuloutely must get, and probably 20 NES games.

Holy shit, if you could connect to Revolutions remotely and play them online, I'd wet my pants. I didn't actually expect to see Rare games like Donkey Kong Country or Goldeneye there too...
