Tommorow, an alien starship apears in High Earth Orbit. It then begins broadcasting a message to all the people of the earth, starting in Mandarin, then Hindi, then English and so on in nine more Languages. They state that they are part of an Federation of several planets, there democratic and capitalisitic (though with laws to keep there corperations from becoming too powerful and social programs). They also say that they plan to let humanity into the Federation, and have several thing to offer us...

1-Practical Nuclear Fusion
2-High Tech Robotics and Nano Circit computers
3-Terraforming Technology (as well as assistance in terraforming mars and venus)
4-FTL Drive
5-Blueprints for Spacecraft, space
6-Cybernetics (Cybernetic Limbs, Brain inhancement)
7-Advanced medical Technology (Nanobots that can extend the Human Lifespan to 200 years and preserve youth, Clone organs, genetic Engineering)

How ever, they must have some condistions, many of them minor including Alien Settlements totaling to about 5,000,000 Xenos on earth within 10 years (including 750,000 soldiers), 15 million tonnes of agricultural goods a year for 100 years and a squadron of 50 warships between 100 and 1,500 meters long, armed with lasers, railguns and KKMs to be stationed above earth (crewed by aliens at first, but with terran spacers will be added as soon as Accademies produce them) and some minor controls on religion. How ever, they do have one condition that is big, They want to get rid of racism, and in there minds that means getting rid of Race.

Neither of the current members of said Alliance never realy developed the Idea of Racial Supremacy, they were like Rome in that respect and there diferent Ethnicities just died out. They have studdied human history, and were disgusted by the consept of White and Black Supremism. They plan on dealing with this by insuring an inter-racial Majority worldwide. Among there plan is...

1-Transplanting millions of Asians to Africa, North America and Europe, Millions of Caucasians to Asia and Africa and Blacks to Asia and Europe.
2-A Twenty two year period were non inter-racial marage will be Illegal (Marages that were made before we join would be honored, Inter-racials can marry each other, and there will be no laws preventing non inter-racial intercorse), after that it will be re-legalised.
3-Rounding up every single White/Black/Asian Supremist, Neo nazi and likeminded scumsucker and Nerve Stapling them to delete said problems

They state that no-one will be executed because of this plan, and that it just accelerating what is happening as they speak.

They also state that they are willing to negotiate, but won't dump there restrictions 100% by any means.

I suppose we are to assume that these people are sincere, and that we can freely agree or disagree with no repercussions. Let's not derail the thread into one where we just debate on whehter the aliens would keep their word, and whether to throw feces at their ambassadors as they leave, ensuring a war we cannot win.

Unlike the one about religion (I think we did one where the price was to wipe out monotheism), I'd have to disagree on this one. The practical societal upheaval on #1 is too great. Nice tech, but we'd have to wreck society as we know it to get this.

Given current attitudes, I won't be surprised if people immediately try to circumvent #2 (by having lots of intercourses without marriage, and of course they ain't using contraceptives). Even if they aren't racists, they might do this just to spite these aliens who step on the rights of Freedom of Association. This would foul up the alien's intent. Then what? Would they admit their harebrain effort failed or would they go even harder?

3 is a good idea.

Unless they offer major changes, I think I'd say no.

I doubt that a forced mixing of races would actually eliminate humanity's concept of race. All that mixing the various human races would do would mean that we would no longer have a concept of "race" in regards to our own species. We'd still view the aliens as another race, and I fail to see what they could do to stop that.

I also don't quite see the racial thing as a major sticking point. I think that humans would probably exploit the loophole of their being no ban on non-interracial intercourse. It might even have the effect of completely divorcing the concept of a "spiritual marriage" (in God's eyes) from a "legal marriage" (in the eyes of the State), so non-interracials could still go to a church to get married in the eyes of God and still not be violating the non-interracial marriage ban.

The biggest sticking point that I actually see is the 5 million Xenos that they're trying to put on the Earth. Yes, I know that the world's armies already exceed that number, however I don't doubt that the settlements could be seen as an attempt at colonising the Earth.

And where would the settlements go? What government would happily say "sure. We'll allow you to live here and become a stratoclass of our society"? There would probably be all kinds of pushing and shoving because people will want the benefits of the alien technology, but without the aliens. In the end, I think that if the settlements are allowed to go forth, the majority of them. (Probably after they hav been turned into Western puppet states).

If this alien federation is so mighty then why does it need to stick a whole bunch of its people on Earth? And are they really going to sit around and make sure we interracially breed? Talk about too much time on your hands... I smell a plot...

No, tell them we'll get back to them in a year. Then once the year is up tell them that the people reviewing their offer have just gained new insights and will need another year to decide. In the meantime try to learn as much about them as possible, then tell them the time's up and the answer is no.

Hopefully we'd learn enough to get the scientists and engineers on the right track so we could start developing their tech on our own within a few hundred years or so.

The resulting social upheaval from such an event would probably negate any good that could come out of it. We must consider that this is actually part of their plan. They give us good technologies, and cause massive social and political upheaval. When the governments need help in subduing massive quantities of people, the alien folk will kindly step in to help keep order using some kinds of non-lethal weapons that we haven't thought of yet. After subduing the masses, they would effectively take control of earth, and take our power to govern ourselves away. Of course, this is all crap and speculation, but so is the question, so I figure it all works out.

Yeah, and as soon as we kill them and steal their stuff they'll take it as act of war, drop asteroids on every major city in the world, then restart the settlement process with support from the army and stick all surviving humans in reservations.

I can't see anyone accepting these terms, I know I wouldn't, since it basically makes us a colony and forces all humans to surrender their rights.

Now how exactly is the confederation going to know? They have FTL drive, not FTL communications. If they come back "What ship, you guys are from a confederation? no thanks, we don't like the terms, bugger off". Then once we have built up, we take them out.

Besides, it would really be much easier to do then you think. A FTL pod ala the SW hyperspace ring brings a nice 1000 ton Vasmir rocket about a lightyear outside their solar systems. Let it run upto near lightspeed and go ballastic towards their homeworlds.

I'd want to say no. Call me primitive but I love my girlfriend and the fact that we come from the same "race" doesn't bother me to the extent where I might even marry her.
