Ideas for home made star wars RPG

Post by Drunk Monkey »

Can any one give me any ideas for stuff like, alien races, star ships (fighters, freighters, capital ships). It’s going to take place during the empire so force users are going to be very few. And any thing else anybody would like to suggest.

Do you have a RPG system picked out yet?
The kewl thing about SW is that you can take almost any alien race in sci-fi, and use it in SW. So aliens are plenty. If you don't want to make your own, just stick to ships/fighters shown in the movies. For most part in my SW games chracters mostly encounter capital ships in the cruiser/frigate role. So nebulon-b's, corellian corvettes, VSD's and older stuff is usually seen.
For freighters you of course have the YT-1300, and it's related ship types.
Then you can pick ships from other SF and adapt them to SW. Also SW computer games can give a lot of fine designs.
Little googling will give some pretty good SW sites for both aliens and ships.

Thank you gunhead, the dilemma I’m having right now is the system, I already have the main races worked out, Wookie, Chiss, Twi’lek, Nemodien, human, Mon Calamari, sulustien, and plenty others. The vesels I’m still working on mostly there not set in stone yet the earliest ships I will go would be the dreadnought. The system itself is what I’m stumped on.

Hmm.... If you can't get WEG D6, My choice would be Silhoutte CORE. It's a system used by Heavy Gear and Jovian Chronicles. So you get core by getting a) silhouette CORE b) Heavy Gear or c) Jovian Chronicles.
It's fast, simple and work great for SW. I know this because I use it myself for SW.
It has vehicle combat rules as standard, so putting together fighters and freighters is no biggie.
So if your local games store has any of the above available, I'm saying go for it.

The WEG D6 I just downloaded from the west end games main page, I think I can get it to work fairly easily for star wars.

West End Games is still around? I thought they stopped supporting their Star Wars D6 system because they went under. Never saw them sell anything around here after '98. :wtf:

They were bought by some rich guy so they would keep making TORG. They've since continued to make products including D6 Space, D6 Modern, and D6 Fantasy. I played a D6 Space game at a convention earlier this year.

How was it? Could it be converted to play star wars?

It was very enjoyable, and a pretty fun system. Unfortunately, I don't know the D6 Star Wars system at all, so it's hard to say. It's supposed to be an evolution of the original D6 system though.

Honestly I don’t know either, but since they don’t sell SW D6 any more I’m thinking of converting another system for star wars, like change the ships in the original game to SW vessels, and aliens in the original to SW aliens.

I did a SW thing once using the Amber Diceless system - was very good for Jedi and other high power characters.

Going at least by what I saw of D6 Space, its Attributes seem to be identical. Little modifications here and there seem to be updates/clarifications (they seem to be using 0 as different from 1-3 apparently), but I couldn't tell how D6 space runs beyond that, as in skills, vehicle stats & combat, base Technical repair guidlines, etc.

Diceless is great because its designed for super-powerful godlike PCs... you can of course tone it down a great deal, but the narrative style of gameplay suits far better when you're playing around with Jedi masters, so there's non of that WEG/d20 "Shit, I botched my test to levitate that ball bearing" and it streamlines forcepowers as well. I split them into several categories, a la Jedi Knight 2. Light, Dark, Neutral and levels 1, 2 and 3. Faily intuitive and it gives a Jedi far greater flexibility.
