Oh and RTS games
USB port, and it has one of the 64DD games that actually required a special mouse that plugged in to the N64 to play, so I see mouse support in the future.

Perhaps its related to the Revolution?

The Revolution takes SD cards, and there is a bit of confusion on the other front; some sites are reporting a 512 MB built in flash drive, while others are reporting 512 MB flash cards for the memory cards (seems redundant with the SD cards so I'm leaning towards the built in one being true).

depends on the game for the most part, and whether or not nintendo will be using anything similar to the existing rom formats. roms for the N64 tend to be anywhere from 5 megabytes to 100 megabytes, depending on the title. though i can't remember ever seeing one over 100 megs.

Ideally it would come with one flash card, but be able to use others. Otherwise I might need to invest in another HDD or something.

The maximum was actually 64 MB (for Resident Evil 2; with all it's FMV and hi-res textures). Carts also used increments of 8 MB (or was it four ?) - so the smallest would've been either 4 or 8 MB.

4mb (or 32megabits) was the smallest games got on the N64, but the vast majority were in the 8mb to 16mb range. Quite a few games in later years went up into the 32mb range, and iirc some whoppers like RE2 and Zelda 64 used the 512 megabit carts, so the biggest games would take up 64mb of space.

And if the games come compressed (zip, rar, etc) they're even smaller.

I'm very happy right now. :)

Anyone notice Duck Hunt in the list?? How will that be played? Light Gun?

Yeah, there's also Hogan's Alley and more or less all the SNES Super Scope games listed.

I suppose they'd be played with either with a USB mouse or a joystick. Nobody's made a first party lightgun for years, since at least the Dreamcast, I think.

Also one of the Nintendo guys at E3 when asked about the Rev controller responded with something like "I can't say anything, except think about how you would be able to play all the different games on 1 controller". That was the hint he gave.

That still really doesn't say much, or even give any clue to the lightgun issue. My guess is that they might go with the mouse angle.

That is unless you're actually trying to insinuate that you think there's a lightgun built into the controller...

A mouse on a console.

A mouse on a console.

Nintendo. If you make this happen, here is how you make the X-Box 360 your bitch:

Go to FPS developer. Say hello. Say 'We have a mouse.' Now you have your new FPSes. Proceed to own upon Halo 3. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

I'm going to stick with my gyroscopic controller theory. Gyroscopes can be used in mouses anyway, so it could be used as both a controller AND a mouse.

Do you see the 64DD game, Polygon Studio?

That game only worked if you hooked a Nintendo mouse up to the N64...it REQUIRED a mouse.

I'd honestly want better thumb sticks than a mouse. If they ever come out with a way to simulate the Virtual On twin sticks on something small, I'd be in heaven.

That would be a damn pain in the ass to control, though, since it's not really that intuitive.

What do we know about the controller anyway?

It's not revolutionary technology, it's a revolutionary implimentation of existing technology
Nintendo has patents and licenses to gyroscopic technology
Nintendo have stated that there will be no D-Pad, or A-B buttons, and that the controllers will be wireless.
Nintendo have heavily implied that the controller will somehow be compatible with all previous games (Rather than using for Gamecube controller for backwards compatability as has been suggested)
Some of the games on the backwards compatability list require either mouse or lightgun functions.
Some games on the list cannot be used to their fullest potential without special accessories (ie. ROB)

....I'm still saying a pair of modified powergloves. Though I have no idea how you're going to emulate ROB.

Can you imagine how awesome a gyroscopic controller would be for first person shooters? Eat your heart out Halo.

I thought the "No A or B buttons" thing was just a rumour from a Japanese magazine.

Also, ROB isn't actually needed for the games that he was designed for. Actually, from what I've heard, you're better off playing them without him, since ROB played like an idiot. ;)

Powergloves would be the worst idea, since they weren't originally made by Nintendo but an outside company, and despite the cool factor, it actually kind of sucked and didn't really work for shit. It's one of the worst Nintendo products ever, really.

Being the somewhat poorly coordinated spaz that I am, I pray to God that it doesn't end up being gyroscopic.

I'm fairly sure the A-B button thing came directly from a statement by Nintendo in Famitsu.

The Wiki is down but they said it came from a Japanese game magazine that wasn't Famitsu, but something I certainly haven't heard of before.

WE don't know anything about the NR controller as of yet, except that it is wireless, everything is speculation.

Current rumor mill points to NR specs being released in the last Quarter, just prior to 360's launch, this would also leaving Sony with insufficient time to make any modifications to thier exsisting controller to compete with Nintendo's implimentations.

Just FYI, there is the Tokyo Games Show in September and Nintendo Power claims they will have the scoop on the Revolution in the November issue.
