How many of the current Naval captains would be this ruthless? The Emperor would have a limited number of true loyalists in the Fleet at the beginning. Most would be still be believers (somewhat) in the Republic. This isn't the AHN era where the navy has been remade in the Emperor's vision - any "weaklings" would have been purged (most likely just retired to avoid too much bad PR in the fleet) long ago.

I'm thinking that once the Jedi raise a few too many eyebrows, a taskforce will be assembled to track them down and eliminate them.

This force will be:

2 Venators, Rogue and Apex. 3 Acclamators, Vengeance, Havoc and Advent. I figure that this is a pretty small force for the Empire to be deploying. Though, when I looked at the ICS, this is what the fleet can deploy:

384 V-Wings (+384 more when the Eta-2s on board are replaced).
72 ARC-170s
320 LAATs
192+ AT-TEs/other "light" walkers/vehicles
106 SPHAATs/Juggernaughts (similar size vehicles, so I made them interchangable, the AotC:ICS lists SPHAATs)
960 Speeder bikes/light vehicles

48,000 Clone Troopers from the Acclamators and another 12,000 from the two Venators. In addition to this, just to liven things up, I'm looking at having something like 26 Clone Commando Delta Squads (6 per Acclamator, 3 per Venator) and 36 ARC troopers (12 per Acclamator).

And at this time (within a few months of the end of RotS), would there be human officers, rather than Clones in command? I'm assuming that there would be. So, introducing Admiral Ducos (Fleet Admiral) and General Idira (Ground Commander). And later, Inquisitor Fior, a youngling and padawan from the PCs generation of Jedi, now turned to the darkside...

Is this excessive, or given the amount of resources at the Empire's disposal and the urgency of the Jedi hunt, is this a relatively small force?

Not really. I think thats just enough force to lock-down a planet, while leaving a big enough gap that the players could conceivably slip through the net if they play things right.

I'm a little worried about the end of your campaign. What kind of satisfaction are your players going to get if the logical end is for them to be dead or in hiding?

Actually the plot arc will lead them to several key plot points... And remember, a Jedi in WEG SW gains Dark Side Points by sitting back and not doing anything to stop an evil act. So, they are probably going to go out fighting.

Some things I will give them the opportunity to do:
Assist in forming the Rebellion.
Seek out and learn from other Jedi and Jedi relics.
Attempt to find a safe location for them to hide.

This isn't going to be a campaign with a happy ending. Most players would realise that, but a heroic death it just as good.

I thought that there were supposed to be a few hundred Jedi left after the purge, all of them scattered (mainly around the outer rim).
Could the empire really afford a taskforce that size for every yahoo who picks up a dropped lightsaber?

Look at how many ships they sent after Grievous–the resources of the republic were heavily drained and it would likely take them many years to get up to pre war or OT level fleet levels.

Well, with the CIS dismantled and no major wars to be fought, tracking down the Jedi would get a FUCKING HUGE percentage of resources. Especially as any one of the "lightsaber sightings" might be Obi-Wan or Yoda...

for your pet inquisitor

after witnessing the death of his master, the young padewan felt an unease descend of him, there was no calm, there was only fear. fear that he might die this day for nothing, with a cry the padewan launched himself at the bounty hunters, the fact that he quickly defeated them and the clones accompanying them did not matter, the youngling had tasted fear, unchained himself from his bonds with his anger, his fury felt good, he felt potential, passion, lust, after years of being required to stifle his emotions the estasy of letting go was overwhelming, now almost bestial he was naught but a pawn of the darkside.

Do you have a physical description of your Inquisitor? The clothes he wear? His hair? Scars? Tatoos? Cybernetics?

Not yet...

Not starting the game for a few weeks. And even then it will be a few sessions before the Inquisitor arrives.

Besides a hedonistic/hellhoundish Imperial Inquisitioner would be fun, and the reason the other sith don't consider him a threat to their power is simple. He's too primitive in his motivations.

I somehow doubt that SOP allows Imperial captains to begin surface bombardment operations on their own initiative, any more than modern SOP allows ship captains to begin shelling a city on their own initiative - I would imagine that it would take an admiral to authorize the use of starship weapons on a planet's surface.

Blasting a whole city to get one Jedi or even a small group of Jedi seems kind of like burning down a house to get rid of a few feral cats.
Not a real analogy. The Empire has many assets answering only to the sector level, and presumably the ship in question is already dispatched to deal with the Jedi. A planet like Tattooine rates like a shitty ranch out in the middle of Utah in comparison to the SW galaxy. I think its not unlikely at all.

There are still all kinds of crime, general strife, petty wars with local powers (like Jabiim), local civil wars (Huk and Grevious' people), etc. Its still going to take time and lots of military might to pacify and subjugate the whole place.

If anything local forces would be far more entrenched due to the necessity of setting up puppet governors.

Tattooine rates like shit anywhere in almost any universe. What population did it have? Tens of millions at most? Nonetheless, I seriously doubt that flattening a city would be allowed in order to get rid of a Jedi (the rule through fear thing didn't came until twenty years or so after the Clone Wars). Perhaps Palpie would be able to hide some such things in the Outer Rim and former CIS holdings, but a high number of instances would mean way too much bad press too early in his reign.

Doesnt the rpg have Tatooine's population in the mid million's not counting a few million sand people?

Also early in his reign is when he'd want the bad pres,s to make sure that no one's stupid enough to do it later in his reign.

Didnt the TPM ITW say Tatooine had a population of only 200,000? (only four or five real settlements.)

Well, I doubt that they'd be flattening anywhere from orbit - I'm thinking a "quarantine"/blockade and having a clone trooper squads on every street with an AT-TE on every corner...
