Please Help me Get Pirates! Gold for Windows to run on XP

Post by HemlockGrey »

I recently got a copy of Pirates! Gold for Windows, the remake of the remake of the original Pirates! game. However, the game tells me that I must run it in 16 or 256 color mode. Well, my Dell laptop w/ Windows XP does not support 256 colors, so I pick 16, hit apply, try to start the game...and it then tells me I must run it in 16 or 256 color mode.

Can anyone help me out here?

1, you sure do have bad luck with pc's.

2. Try dosbox, or the windows compatability kit with win95, 256 colours but Dosbox is your best shot with VDM sound

No. I have no idea what that is. Please explain it as you would to a small child.

1. It's always some damn thing.

2. I tried DOSBox, but no dice, since it's a windows game.

Go to the Pirates folder.
Right-click the "pirates" executable.
Choose "properties".
Go to the "compatibility" tab.
Pick "run in compatibility mode for Windows 95" (pick from the list)
Pick "run in 256 colours".
Apply
