Can you imagine Han Solo coming up with crap repartees such as this?
Actually, I have two more words:

Blob. Racing.
I put the book down. I seriously did not continue reading after that. I have not even picked up Jedi Search since then, and I won't unless to burn it.

Also, I like Dark Empire. The first one. The sequel has a ton of stupid shit in it, unfortunately.

Whatever happened to Daala anyway?
Not KJA, but I almost did that with one of the awful Han Solo centric NJO books, it was just in general boring and poorly done and then they refrence Jizz music. JIZZ MUSIC. Is that the best way to make everyone get it sounds like Jazz.

yes, and as a "Padawan" jazz Player, I find this deeply diturbing. Also, I thought Dark Empire was good enough, not the best but i have read it more than once and each time I enjoy it.

Its history goes way beyond that. I believe it was WEG's Galaxy Guide 6 that first used the word when it established Droopy McCool as being a jizz wailer back in 1990.

Man I can't even write that with a straight face.

Droopy McCool the Great Jizz player.

AH-HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I might have suspected this could all be blamed on WEG...

Apparently, she doesnt even deserve the dignity of death. :P
In the book after the Crystal Star (the one in which Luke finds Callista, his girlfriend who disappeared in Darksaber after losing her force powers), Daala returns to the world and her old flame.

Incidently, I enjoyed reading Darksaber, mainly because I liked the character of Bevel Lemelisk (the chief designer of the Death Star along with the alien Wedge Antilles is having an affair with), and particularly his angry reactions to the shoddy materials accumulated and used in the construction of the Darksaber (a Hutt superlaser).

On the other hand, Daala was, in my opinion, what made the book not very high quality, along with KJA's minimalistic Republic Fleet sizes. She's incompetent, unlucky, and very arrogant (she imagines that by somehow attacking Coruscant and devastating it the "rebels" will "flee to one hundred different bases again", never mind that the greater part of the Imperial fleet has been destroyed and/or captured because of the Thrawn and reborn Emperor campaigns.

Darkstar was good except for Crix Madines horrifically anti-climatic end, he's supposed the be SW's answer to Ultimate Nick Fury, Mo Fo's  .

So, Darksaber sucked because it had a shitty premise. The Death Star was awesome the first time we saw it. It was still kinda cool the 2nd time. By the third time, it just screamed "HACK" and when KJA whipped it out a FOURTH time...I wasn't impressed.

I have never read DE, but allow me to list my objections.
  • Anakin Skywalker did not destroy the Sith. Han Solo did. By shooting the Sith Master in the back.
  • Anakin Skywalker did not destroy the Sith. The Sith Lord escaped Anakin, and Anakin forgot to mention this possibility to Luke. Yeess... We're sure Palpatine kept the secrets of the Sith from falling into Lord Vader's hands.
  • Anakin Skywalker did not destroy the Sith.
  • Palpatine has world devastating power. No. Just no.
  • Palpatine is able to yank Luke's X-Wing across the galaxy by will alone. Why he needed that affair with the Second Death Star is therefore beyond me.
  • Imperial Von Neumann Machines. Remind me again, why are these so much more threatening than Von Neumann machines that have been knocking around the galaxy for thousands of years.
  • Palpatine has a secret throne world that no one ever knew about. Crammed full of expendable Dark Side Adepts. Yes. New Republic Intelligence is that inept.
  • Force mind-transferrence.
  • The Eclipse Class Star Destroyer, with its inconsistant yeild of superlaser. That is somehow vastly more powerful than its turbolaser armamment.
  • R2-D2 destroying such a vessel.
  • R2-D2 not even being monitored by the Imperials
  • Imperial Ships being hijackable by a fucking thirty plus year old pilot-assist droid.
  • Endless superweapons, including the Galaxy Gun (nifty, but for god's sake, does the Emperor have such a tiny penis he needs this endless compensation.) the Eclipse Star Destroyers (naff) and the World Devestators (Yawn).
  • Aforementioned Palpatine cloning crapping out on him for no discernable reason, resulting in a totally contrived plot device of an excuse to want Anakin Solo's unborn body - one would think this would rather inconvinience him. Running an empire from the crib.
  • Palpatine's grand master plan of sucking out everyone's soul. Just when you think shit can't get any worse, they produce the shit sourcebook, with 5000% more shit.
That will do for now.

World Devestators
You didnt like those? I thought they were one of the more impressive, and most practical, of the Imperial Superweapon line.

Sorry. The same shit has existed in the Star Wars Galaxy for thousands of years, since the KotOR era. Matter-replication tech was present aboard the death star, and functional Von Neumann setups were used by the CIS. No one should crap their pants at the sight of the World Devastators. The New Republic should have just unvieled their own and set them at each other.

It's a bit unfair applying retro-active information don't you think?* Other than that, I agree with your list, let me add one more; Palpatine is dead, no he isn't, yes he is, no he isn't, yes he is, no he isn't - oh look finally yes he is ... you sure?

I will note for the people who debate with me that I make no attempt to defend DE2 or EE. They're bad and shitty. The arc should've ended with DE.

I'm not saying the devestators are some new, world cowling uber-super-duper weapon, just that they make sense from a practical sense. What's better than a fleet of warships that can build and rebuild their own squadrons of fighters, support craft, and land invasion equiptment? Not to mention the self-resupplying characteristic of being able to devour raw materials and self-process them, while at the same time carrying out a terror campaign.

Lack of a comprehensively thought out background universe does not negate its sillyness. The responsibility for that does not rest with the authors, it rests collectively on Lucasfilm, for not having a big Writer's Guide of Technology. Von Neumann machines shouldn't have shocked everyone, we know that now. Someone at Lucasfilm should have known that then, but didn't.

The enemy with the exact same technological base also having embraced this logical and in no way innovative concept?

Does this make them any less practical militarily?

:wtf:

I give you a maximum of 2 posts to either rectify this statement (in such a way as it makes sense) or renounce it before I start calling you an idiot.

Honestly do you understand what you're suggesting? It's like saying; the Death Star shouldn't have shocked anyone, the Turbolaser tech has been around for centuries! Or a more real life example; using fire in warfare (think Napalming Vietnemese villages) shouldn't shock anyone since fire has been around since the dawn of man!

It is both an impossibly stupid arguement, and one that cannot possibly follow any logical thought.

The debate isn't about the discovery of new tech to shock people (as this has been retro-actively filled in), but new applications of the tech and the ruthlessness with which it was unleased on the Galactic populous. Seriously man, just, wow.

The idea that making a ship with onboard foundries should be something new in the Star Wars universe is absurd. For a start, the Death Star had them, (and, IIRC, the fluff about Duplicators on the Death Star does predate DE) and numerous Imperial ships are speculated to posess matter replication technology.

The idea that a stock sci-fi concept like the self-replicating machine is new and shocking to the inhabitants of 'the GFFA' is absurd. Similarly absurd is the idea that no one* turned this common technology to use in war until the Emperor's Clone came up with them.

*We now know that they in fact did, and that self replicating droid production centres were stock CIS tech.

It's a fair (and highly unoriginal) concept, but the idea that they're going to be some sort of terrifying superweapon that the New Republic has no answer to in a setting like Star Wars is sillyness.

They weren't emoting or freaking out over it. They were just trying to combat what were basically large warships under the atmosphere - using teratons of firepower would be counterproductive when its one of their worlds. So they sent futile fighter raids that did nothing. The dilemma is it was basically impossible to destroy the WDs without causing more damage than they were.
