Imagine an Internet where fake expertise is verboten

Would phishing and pharming scans be removed also? As they are pretending to be the bank, would this cause them to disappear also (and hopefully not get put back up)?
Of course, this could make law enforcement tougher, trying to penetrate various illegal rings. I.e. while trying to penetrate a hacking ring, the officer pretends to be a hacker. They ask if he is a police officer, and he denies. Then all his posts vanish.

Well, the Internet that remnained would be a shadow fo its former self. Maybe 10% left if we're lucky.
Of course, all our modems would still be set to max bandwith so pages would load like greased lightning. Probably most of the &*$#@! pop up ads woud vanish...
I'm happy to say I think about 85%+ of my stuff would still be around, since I am too lazy to keep track of lies.

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!

A goat? Hell, I'd sacrifice a field of goats if it brought such an event down upon the Internet.Frank Hipper wrote:It would be a great day, and I'd sacrifice a goat to Loki in worshipful praise for it.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

What's the level of expertise required? An example that comes easily to mind is the armchair generals: would they still be able to talk about the military, what it does and how it does, even if they've never served a day in their life?
Is some kind of formal schooling and/or training required to talk about it? Personal experience? Can people still talk about how a car's engine works even if they've never gotten any formal certification for it?
Basically what I'm trying to get at here is, how much expertise is required, and where does it have to come from, before you can talk about something without it vanishing?

What about people who are in no way experts, but still have a good deal of knowledge in the subject due to extensive reading? Suppose their posts are actually valid: would they still disappear just because they weren't said by the expert?
"If one needed proof that a guitar was more than wood and string, that a song was more than notes and words, and that a man could be more than a name and a few faded pictures, then Robert Johnson’s recordings were all one could ask for."

I'd assume that with Armchair Experts (General or otherwise) as long as the information thney were passing was true from the perspective of pure knowledge, it'd be okay. Especially if they were forthright about not having "accreditation".
OTOH, an armchair general type who tried to use his knowledge to blullshit about serving in the military and, say... be an F-22 pilot or something would find himself booted off the net.
The scenario can't boil down to "only those with Ph.D's in the subject discussed are allowed". The Internet would shrink down so small that it almost wouldn't be worth having anymore.

What would happen to parody sites? Would they disappear too, or would everyone be fooled by them?

You know, I think that this would be an excellent tool for research (or at least education).
Imagine if I don't know about something, so you postulate something and post it somewhere. Then you check whether it is still there (or viewable, or what have you).
postid10000="Goldbach's Conjecture is true"
postid10001="Goldbach's Conjecture is false"
or, in keeping with my username
"P = NP"
"P != NP"
A lot of people would sleep a lot better at night. Of course, you'd still need to come up with proofs for these things, but at least you'd be on the right track.
Perhaps:
"OJ is innocent"
"OJ is guilty"
Trial by bbs (which I've seen quite a few people undergo already here, like trial by ordeal)

From the OP it wouldn't stop the Bullshit. It just stops those who claim they're something they're not.
Doofus A could write all he wanted so long as he did not claim to be an authority on it. So creationist sites and other fundy idiocy would remain. It's just not going to have the claim "And leading scientists agree with us!"
.
Liar A couldn't if he pretended to something he didn't have.
Presumably, this being Loki satire (like Landover Baptist) would be unaffected.

Questions and comments, slightly off topic, but not quite:
Isn't it already illegal to claim to be an engineer without being certified as such? Does this not also apply to stuff posted on the internet?
If yes, wouldn't it be possible to enforce this in other fields also, including the various research sciences and medicine?
At least some kind of ID certificate could be developed to allow certified scientists and doctors to prove their authority online, and fakery would entail stiff penalties. Those who refuse to produce such ID while claiming authority could then be held in suspicion.
On topic:
This would of course, not exclude all those who do have a degree but are crackpots and hence wrong - though the amount of bullshit would be greatly diminished. The internet would once again become a quick and easy source of valid and reliable information.

I think it's illegal to claim to be an engineer in a professional capacity if you aren't one.
I don't think it's illegal to claim to be one at say, a party, to impress girls, or online, but it is illegal to do a job that requires professional certification as an engineer (i.e. build a bridge) unless you are an engineer.
(Note that while it's not illegal to claim to be an engineer to pick up girls, I'm not sure if it's advisable either

If it works, and no one is injured, how can they penalize you for it? What scale does it need to be on to be considered illegal? If my old man has a wood-working shop, and I build a bridge across Suckme creek,
