Other things that will happen: Ewan McGregor will be seriously weirded out. And quite apart from the Islamic fundies, the Christian fundies will start to rave about Yoda being some sort of demon and the Jedi agents of Satan's will, Rapture, Armageddon prophecy yadda yadda yadda.
They already think that. Ive read christo manuals stating lucas was inspired for yoda reading a book on demons with the same picture.

Has anyone considered the biological testing that people would want to do on Yoda? Every rich spoiled millionaire would want to live for 900 years.

Jedi 'religion' grows in Australia

ABS Warnings pre-census

I can't find a copy of the full census results, but the problem is that in order to be a recognised as a religion in Australia you need 10k followers, an established belief system and a place of worship. Jedi easily has the followers but can't get the other two pre-reqs.

Wasn't his longevity due to the Force? Even if it wasn't, it would be due to his species rather than anything unique to himself.

I don't think Yoda would submit to such testing: "Better things to do I have."
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

Pretty much the normal life-span of his species is "only" about 450 years

1. How do you know? Isn't he the only one of his species we know of, besides a few other dudes, who didn't come in the RARpothetical universe-warp?

2. That's still a helluva long time. I'm guessing that Yoda is carbon-based, so research on him would still be useful in order to unlock the proverbial "fountain of youth" for humans. It'd make us live at least a little longer.

There are some pre-TPM books out there. But I doubt they were ever immune to being killed by numbers. Qui Gon's comments would suggest otherwise after all. And IIRC the Mandalorians killed a few in the last Sith War.

The Mandalorians only killed a few Jedi? I find that unbelievable. I heard Jango Fett, during his prime, took down nearly forty Jedi.

I'll take your word for it. He still lives for a fucking long time. Scientists would want to know how he regenerates so without being cancerous.

Stravo wrote:How does one deal with the Will of the Force if you're an athiest?
Quite easily, since the Force is not a traditional God, and it is certainly not the Christian God. It's more like a natural phenomenon which we have never seen before, and any sentient "will" we attribute to it is obviously just its precognitive properties.

Of course, the existence of precognition would represent quite a shock, but if scientists can handle a particle simultaneously taking two different paths to get from point A to point B, they can handle this. The point is that if the Force were real, it would be a subject of scientific study (particularly since its properties are repeatable under controlled conditions).

Live debate on TV:

(Whoever the head fundie is nowadays): "These LORD forsaken Jedi are pretenders, sent here by the LORD JESUS to test our faith!!!! They are devilish pretenders!!!"

Obi-Wan: *Force-closes Fundie's mouth* I find your lack of faith disturbing....

Meanwhile, in DC:

Secret Service agents: "Mr. Jedi sir, you can't go in there. It's restricted."

Yoda: *Force-throws them into the wall*

Yoda walks into the Oval Office

Yoda: "At an end, your reign is, Mr. Bush. And not short enough, it was..."

More seriously, I'd bet the Jedi would throw a lot of believers behind them. The casual believers in religion would transfer immediatley.

The Jedi wouldn't be that popular, however. I can see them being assasinated in short order. Too many countries consider people with power and a desire for reform THEIR way to be a threat.

More likely countries would steal young Jedi and re-indoctrinate them into becoming Jedi that serve the country, rather than the world. Of course, these would have to be dealt with in short order by the official Council. I'm sure things like this happened in the new republic, so it'd be nothing new.

THe trick would be for Jedi not to publish their training techniques, and to take the children of only willing parents. In the SW universe, people are so accustomed to the Jedi, they don't even object to child-snatching. Not so here.

Course this assumes that everything stays candy-colored. Like it or not, the world as it stands today is a pretty violent...angry...fearful...hate-filled place. If we assume Earth suddenly A) has a good number of Force-sensitives and B) knows the Force is real...what happens when dark-siders start to crop up, either on their own or through less friendly nations deliberately trying to create them?

If you consider the happy fun fun informational picture/diagram books to be canon (and I wouldn't know and don't particularly care) then there's a female one of his species who is a powerful Jedi, and their species has a proclivity toward force sensitivity. (AOTC version of the book.) Again, it's not like these things are always accurate, but I thought I'd pitch in something worthless.

One thing's for sure; the days of the early Jedi council, when they are few in number and weak, would be the most dangerous. Let their ranks swell to a decent amount, and the sheer number of Jedi would crush dark side and self-serving country opposition.

By that time, the Jedi were arrogant, clouded by the darkside, etc.

In this universe, Yoda and Obi would be wiser, having just raised the most destructive Sith of their time, and learning from the mistake.

I believe it would be extremely difficult to keep the members of the nascent Jedi Order away from temptation to misuse their powers. Even small things that could be done in quiet could be used to great lucrative effect.

I think there are two factors that would make it easier for the Jedi in this scenario to handle Dark Siders. Firstly, new proto-Sith wouldn't have an entire galaxy to hide in, just one planet. Secondly, there wouldn't be any legacy of powerful Sith Lords around to find, harbour and train new disciples, or to subtley undermine the Council.

The OP asked "Will the UN become a force to be reckoned with as they now have Jedi at their disposal?"

Of course, giving "teeth" to the UN would help them somewhat, but what the UN lacks the most is not "teeth", but "brain". Only if the Jedi actually assumed some type of control of the UN, would it be useful. If they became merely advisors or foot-soldiers, no matter how wise or powerful, they would still be ham-strung by the politics of the UN, especially the veto-ing Powers.

Given real influence, wWould the wisdom of the Jedi be enough to handle Earth's fractious powers and interests? After all, they know nothing of Earth history, culture and politics.

Probably "yes", they could help. After all, no Jedi could possibly know all there is to know about the 12 million+ inhabited worlds of their galaxy. And just looking it up in their archives wouldn't be the same as truly understanding the situation. Yet they were still effective as peace-keepers and mediators throughout the SW galaxy. So I guess their training includes the ability to quickly assess unfamiliar situations, and adapt accordingly.

Whichever way you look at it, the situation as described in the OP is just dripping with cool. It's a wonderful wet-dream for Warsies, or for anyone who gives a damn about our fucked-up little world...
