Unconventional tactics in games.
OK do you use any unconventional tactics in th games you play anf if so what are those tactics
for me it's use of anti-armor weapons in a anti-infantry role (especially in tight spaces)

My friends stopped playing Ghost Recon with me because of that. I'd just give one of my squad members and RPG, and the second I knew where they were... BAM! yeah it's pretty effective, though the main reason I started using anti-armor against infantry is that my Battlefont AI seem to have an Droideka fetish and there's no way you kill those things with just rifles before they kill you.DPDarkPrimus wrote:My friends stopped playing Ghost Recon with me because of that. Plague spam in Starcraft. Late game against turtled Terrans I'd get maybe 24-48 Defilers and plague everything they own twice. Then, after the Defilers are all dead, I'd spawn a massive Hydralisk force and finish them off. It worked very well, but was only marginally effective against 'toss.

In first-person shooters, I tend to use kamikaze attacks with disturbing regularity. I tend to use high explosives while making them, since getting one's self killed in order to take out an enemy is more effective if there's a big explosion with it. Particularly in the Unreal games, where I try to make a name for myself in regards to my regular use of the Redeemer at near point-blank ranges.
However, like the kamikaze attacks used by the Japanese in WWII, there are a few catches. 1) I get killed as a result, so I don't get very high scores, 2) Eventually my targets coordinate a defense against it, reducing the effectiveness of the attacks.

My friend and I have devised a few oddities in Battlefield Vietnam which might still work in BF2...
- Select special forces or ARVN M14/C4 kit. Find a jeep. Cover said jeep in C4. Switch to detonator. Get in driver's seat. Turn on radio to "Flight of the Valkyries." Drive.
- Find a good pilot, any class, and a good "crew chief" (engineer kit with blowtorch). Get in a Huey Slick. Crew chief can constantly repair Huey with wrench from either open seat, and "Get some!" with the M60s. The real kicker, though: Said good pilot hovers over enemy tank. Crew chief gets out blowtorch, destroys tank. "Flight of Valkyries" is good here, too.

That reminds me. For the HALO games, my greatest weapon is my driving. I immediately hop into the driver's seat of the Warthog, Ghost, or Banshee, and start kicking ass. The added weapons on the last two are a bonus to break the monotony, because mostly I just stick to running people over. For HALO 2 I found I was a natural at skimming the surface of a map with the Banshee and clipping an opponent in the head.JediNeophyte wrote:<snips mention of driving>

In CoD, while driving tanks is cool, hunting them with a rocket launcher is even better! I think I actually have an anti-tank fetish. I'll drop out a third story window or bell tower if it puts me right behind the tank, so I can send a round right up its ass! BOOM! There's a 24 hour Cassino map server that I've spent many hours hunting down tanks (there've been a couple of times where I've pretty much single-handledly stopped the use of tanks on that server). And if its got a second player maning the machine gun, so much the better!
And I'll use the M-1 and the MP-44 as sniping weapons...

I'm not sure if this counts as unconventional tactics as much as it counts for suicidal. I do this the most often in NS, although I tend to do the same for other games as well...
Once I grab a shotgun (In CO - I'm a CO whore, NS doesn't have enough action for me), I run straight into the enemy hive. With or without support. If there's support I'll tend to run straight in and hope my teammates aren't incompetent and can shoot skulks nipping at my ankles. Get upgrades as you go along, and just try to do as much damage as possible.
Why? A couple reasons:
1. It's incredibly cool. On a good day I'll take 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 skulks down before they get me. I might even get a lerk or two if I'm not being completely swarmed. Sometimes it leaves half the enemy team going "OMG" and accusing you of aimbotting.
2. It encourages my team to follow. Most pubs have the problem of marines not being aggressive enough, meaning aliens start getting fades, onoses, and webs after awhile, and marines are screwed. Most marine teams really are sheep - everybody wants to follow, nobody wants to lead.
3. It's good practice. After doing this alot, if you're somewhat intelligent you'll either learn and become an even better player, or if you're stupid, you'll provide comic reflief.

Most unconventional tactic I used that I can remember was in BF1942 - the expansion pack mission from Secret Weapons where you have a removed ally base and an air dropping ship. Parachuted into the ally camp, stole the air dropping spawn aircraft, flew it well over to the otherside of the map and as near as the edge as I could get, parked it up and left it there.
Noone had a clue where it was, the AI bots we had on the game presumably werent smart enough to try taking off with it and it was effectively out of the game from that point on.

I am one with my 88mm, In my fortess of steel know as the Tiger I, I reach out and smite my enemies(The allied dogs they are), I am infact so intune with that particlar tank I take great pleasure in surpsing allied pilots by shooting them out of the sky. I used to have a screencap my friend sent me, he was chasing a Spitfire on Breakthrough, about two hundred feet up and he just got line up on the guy when I plastered him from a grid and a half away.
That and kuwbel panzerfausting, get one jeep, have one guy with faust lay down on the hood, drive around, find tank, race towards it at high speeds, guy on hood fires faust, watch tank exploded, repeat.

In Call of Duty, room to room, run away from the enemy and cook off a grenade, throw it into a wall in front of you as you go through a doorway, the grenade goes backwards and into the enemy which I SWEAR always chases you when they see you have a bolt-action rifle in urban combat (which is itself unconventional seeing as there are great submachine guns available).
Favorite unconventional shit in CoD: ride around in one of the jeeps with rockets on the ready. If I see a tank I switch into the passenger side aim down the sight and blow the tank away (you have to shoot from the rear). In the event they see you, close the distance ASAFP and hopefully not die, dismount, sprint to their rear, and let loose a rocket of fury. By no means foolproof but there you go. (alternately, I'll drive the jeep alone and switch to the MG mounted on back and take out enemy dismounts -- most people aren't used to a lone driver switching positions and attacking).
Starcraft, have 2 science vessels irradiate each other and fly over a zerg's mineral field (or terran just not toss, it's best against zerg for obvious reasons). Then again, the unconventional in SC is merely the conventional bag of tricks among the elite in SC. Crazy Koreans.
Favorite SC one (cause I made it to the best of my knowledge). 1 SCV, 2 BC's and 12 wraiths, a task force that doesn't take FOREVER to build but is effective. Defensive matrix the 2 BC's and send them in as damage soakers, the 12 wraiths behind attack unmolested every AA battery and detector possible. When that's done the wraith's can cloak at will in the enemy's base and do a lot of damage.

Sounds mad, but the AI didn't seem to be able to cope, so I survived long enough to start building engineers, and then it was all over.

Not in the current trend of the thread, but on Tiger Woods 2005 i'm always finding new and risky ways to finish holes quicker.
In the older Championship Manager games me and my brother mastered the 2-3-2-1-2 tactic. Not very wide, but scored shitloads of goals. Unfortunately newer versions have nixed this unrealistic tactic.
Charging in with archers in Medievil: Total War was another speciality. I remember one unit managed to take down 2 Almohad Princes in one battle.
