Where'd you get the original figures from? And a bomb would be mostly Fire damage, which you can get up to 95% resistance in (with, for example, 2 +max fire resist runes in a shield or helm), which would allow a Druid or Barbarian to survive even a direct hit even with your as-yet-unsubstantiated figures (which is all that is necessary if they're carrying any Rejuvination potions).Thunderfire wrote:gravity wrote:
That's assuming that all 50 rounds hit, which they won't, and assuming no damage reduction, which there will be. Let's assume a lvl 99 Sorceress with max Energy Shield, 50% enemy damage goes to mana, 75% (max) damage reduction and a 75% (max) chance to block, all of which are not hard to achieve at lvl 99.
Ok, so with erratic teleporting (dueling style) at least 75% of the shots will miss (based on history, this is probably actually a high estimate for hitrate, but I'm being coservative for fairness), then maybe 30% will be stopped by armor (as it's usually fairly low on Sorcs, but they can still stop some hits much more powerful than C-bows) then 75% will be blocked, then the remaining damage will be reduced by 75%, then reduced by about 35% (combo of mana shield and damage goes to mana effect). That means that on average, according to my calculator a one second burst from a heavy quad .50 cal would only do about 71 damage, which is very low considering a sorc can easily have many hundred hp, and that's assuming very generous accuracy rates and good damage, with no support for the Sorc.
Similar calculations apply to bombs.Eh? Why? It doesn't work like that with arrows, each one goes through the defense/blocking checks individually. The character will be hit by several bullets if a burst of MG fire has
made it past his defense. Upto 16 bullets of a burst will make it past
his/her defense if he fails to block the attack.
I don't see where this comes from. I was calculating the average damage per second based on an fairly optimistic accuracy. This means he/she
will take about 300-400 damage if a burst of MG fire hits him/her.
How can you prove that? And bombs would rarely hit directly, either. Now a Bomb or large artillery shell will much more damage.
30000-40000 mostly physical damage would not be uncommon.
D2 equivalent of a Bomb is the corpse explosion spell. Only
resistance help against CE in D2. A D2 Character with 75% physical
resistance will still suffer 7500 - 10000 damage.

damage. Bombs have a blast radius. About the damage GURPS
has weapon damage calculation rules. A shell from a typical BB does
about 200-300 times the damage of a .50 cal round. Bombs do a similar
amount of damage. Anyone closer than 8 yards to the impact will suffer
full damage, anyone closer than 16 yard suffers 1/4 damge ...
WW2 era boms were not exactly known for accuracy, so most hits would not be at full power. Also, you're right that most of the blast damage would be physical, which actually helps the D2 characters since you can get higher physical res. than fire res.Thunderfire wrote:Bombs do concussion damage. A Sorceress with maxed out physical resistance (97.5%, taking into account all factors except armor, which is usually low on a Sorc) would only take 520 damge from a direct bomb hit, which would mean they could survive a direct hit, giving them time to use a rejuv before anything else hit. So bombs wouldn't necessarily be enough, especially WW2 era ones.

Wouldn't block still stop part of the attack though? Hmmm, there aren't really any physical area effect attacks in Diablo 2 to actually compare o a bomb to, the only ones I can think of are magical.A really high level

Actually, bombs in World War 2 were pretty innaccurate, and they wouldn't use them in close battlefield combat for fear of hitting their own troops. Bombs are mainly used behind enemy lines and on towns and cities, not on infantry during battles. In fact I don't think they were considered effective against infantry. Artillery could be a problem, but with Teleport or Increased Speed, they D2 forces could close the gap faster than the gunners could adjust their aim.Bombs/Artillery

this. Divebombing is pretty accurate and has been used in battles by
all mayor forces. Divebombing is pretty accurate. Even Levelbombers would
work the large number of bombs a formoation of heavy bombers can drop
on them some bombs will hit and these will mostlikley will several characters
per attack.
