A private message would probably have been a better idea, but briefly as myself and the friend programming the graphics engine went to different universities it became too difficult to coordinate. I've moved on to other projects (such as the one linked to in my sig).

You probably won't use my idea and it's probably too ambitious, but how about this... a Star Wars vs. Star Trek simulator.

Based on as accurate stats as can be found from analysis of the canons (stuff like SWTC for example) make it so in the game you can choose ships and send them into battle, in a multiplayer/AI format.

Think of the custom games in X-Wing Alliance, how you could get a SSD and pit it against some X-Wings if you wanted, or any mix. It doesn't have to be "fair" or "balanced" some ships are just much better than others and some have no chance. But it would be fun for the Vs. debate crowd and just cool to see 3-D renderings of all these ships with comparative scales, etc.

There, that's my dream. ;)

Boooor-riiiing. Jeepers, even your game ideas are overly-complex and ultimately useless :P

I'd rather see a full-fledged SW mod of Escape Velocity: Nova. Full galaxy with hundreds upon hundreds of systems and routes, dozens of ships to buy and upgrade, and missions and jobs for bounty hunting, smuggling, slavery, pirating, rebel actions, imperial missions... all that good stuff.

I was thinking of something along those lines last week, except I was thinking thats how they should have made a Star Wars MMO.

Perhaps, although a SW MMO should probably have a ground aspect to the game. I've got a game design for a space adventure/freelance simulation with a variety of job types and opportunities that fits that bill, but it'd be beyond the scope of EV:Nova.

I simply fail to understand why nobody has made a computergame simulating the life of a smuggler.

Well, Escape Velocity does have some smuggling aspects to it (I recall at least 2 goods that are illegal and will get to attacked by the feds if they scan you), and iirc so did the action-oriented game Freelancer.

Because it's Star Wars, not Star Making-A-Living-Through-Unlawful-Ways. :P

Well sadly, that sort of mindset, taken to the extreme, is what's bogged down most SW games. Rather than utilizing the rich environment or style, we got The Battle of Hoth 64, or Star Wars: Some Uninspired Derivitive Nonsense.

C'mon, Star Wars games MUST be able 'evil (darkforceuser, admiral, emperor) plans to (conquer, destroy, enslave) the galaxy! They will use their army of (darksideguns, darksideships, darksideusers) to dominate the innocent people of the galaxy, and only a (bogan, drunkard, mercenary, skycaptain) can save them! They will also (drainforcepower, usecrystals, schemealoud). Ugh.

If they ever made a SW game that DIDN'T revolve around saving the universe from the darkside boogeyman, it'd be GOOD. And that'll never happen! :)

TIE Fighter. Crush the enemies of the Emperor. Coincidentally (or not) the best Star Wars game ever. Period.

Heartily agreed. There was more depth and story to TIE Fighter than just about any other game (except maybe KOTOR, and even then I think TIE Fighter probably wins).

LucasArts needs to wake up and smell the quality.

Having played EV-Nova and finished all the missions, and having LOVED IT! I would Soooooo want to see a Full Game Conversion of EV-Nova to a StarWars game.

And again, for those who love the Spaceship aspect of StarWars more then the ground part (WOO! Right here!) Nova would provide a wonderful platform makeup for a MMOLRPG

There have been quite a few plot-less Star Wars games though, like the Pod Racer titles, Super Bombad Racing, and Star Wars Demolition. "Win the contest, bucko!"

I've been zinged! :)

But ... erm... you ENDED UP killing an evil admiral who wanted to rule the universe. Sure, you were doing it for the evil emperor who WAS ruling the galaxy, but still... ;) TIE was a great game.

Not a great game. THE greatest game. I have to agree...

Sorry to see this project fell... however, you should all know Freelancer has a full SW conversion called FreeWorlds. V1.65 is out, multiplayer only.
Freeworlds V1.66 is ocming out with single player and multiplayer.

Nevertheless, I would love to see a "Rebellion 2". I mean a well thought-out SW strategy game.

It's coming out soon:
SW:Empire at war.

Space + ground battles :D
