The thing is none of the iperial engineers recognized the exhaust ports weakness,
also they woud need to fly a heavily modified tie bomber into the trench for anything approaching proton torpedo level power,
a difficult task considering how clumsy Tie bombers re.
What bull is this? TIE fighters have been modified to carry Proton torps. TIE bombers carry them on a regular basis, TIE Advanceds also carried them, as did TIE g/t. TIE bombers are actually as fast and manuverable as Y-wings, they aren't as bad as they are made out to be. Plus, the Empire has loads of them
Proton Torps are standard tech. And if we go with the Lemelisk theory, the Empire already knew about the exhaust port and didn't think the Rebels would find it. How would they know the Rebels would manage to get ahold of the plans.
Yeah, but why bother with something as difficult as the exhaust port? Put in a self-destruct known only to the Emperor. Unless, of course, the plan was for Vader to get to his X1 and make the run himself, but if he's still in the equation I would think it would be far easier (not to mention better for the Imperial military budget) for him to take out the command crew and assume command of the station himself.
My god this makes me wish there was a game based on this. You a stormtrooper working in concert with all the other troopers to regain loyalist control of the death star. It would be beutiful. Heck, even a mod of some RTS would be cool (maybe Empire at War, or whatever that new one being made is called)
Back on topic.
Wouldn't someone loyal get suspicious of all this and warn the proper people, even if we use the rediculously low crew numbers I still think that that is far to many people to pull wool over their eyes successfully, even if the chain of command is utilized.

Problem is, Lucasarts would never approve it, it contradicts the movies.
And if you didn't get their approval, then you would be sued big time.
However, you could make one about being a loyalist trooper on a large battlestation, torpedo sphere, or warship.
X-Wing: Alliance contradicts the movies by having you do the Death Star 2 run with Lando in the back seat. The original X-Wing does the same thing with you replacing Luke at the Death Star. Violating the movies hasn't been so much of a problem.
Neither of them contradict the overall plot of the movie. One replaces a pilot, the other, replaces a pilot. Neither of them alter the plot completly or come up with events that definitly didn't happen. They make small changes (in the context of the story anyway, if Luke didn't blow up the DS, that would change the rest of the trilogy).
Does that mean the stuff that happens in Rebel Assault 2 (based off of the events in RA) isn't in the SW timeline?
Perhaps make the game like the Infinities comics, is what I was thinking. Oh, as far as I know LFL can't do a thing about fan mods of existing games. Perhaps I should make a thread about some of my Star Wars game ideas.

And the infinity games are a good idea. Or some one can just make a fan mod.
Lucas art's probably wouldnt want to invest in that, but it woud be cool as an expansion set, downloadable content or just as a fan mod .

To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.

If the new starwars RTS has a map editor (WC3 stile) we should get some people to gether and do one. Or if i can find my old starwars RTS we could do it on that.
PS a mod is not needed if it has a decent map editor.
