Acclamator
I have been wondering. According to some official stats the Acclamator is an outstanding troop ship, but it also has the potential (with slight modifications) to be an incredible asset to any Admiral in space battle.
It is supposedly as fast as a Ywing, and has a pertty good load of point laser cannons. Sounds like an outstanding opportunity to achieve a great anti-fighter platform with little effort. Add a few tractor beams, quad lasers, and missile tubes and you have an outstanding Anti-fighter platform, not to mention Pursuit and Reconnaissence capship.
Why was it left aside so easily?
Also, another question. During the Battle of Hoth. How the heck did the Empire land troops if the planetary shield was impenetrable? No ships could have gotten through to land troops...

Well first off, up until a few years ago the Acclamator didn't "Exist" in StarWars even though now it 'existed' in the past, so... yea..
Second off, and more in universe. It's a troop ship, not made for prolonged engagements, I would imagine that hundreds/thousands of these were mothballed and put into storage during Imperial times... That said, if the ship 'existed' retro actively, I bet it would be a Perfect medium Warship for the Rebels. Heck, when you’re using Corellian Corvettes and converted Cargo ships, an old Acclamator would be a godsend!

Re: Acclamator
Try a very minor one. Similar ships in design and size are only star frigates. A star battle cruiser or star dreadnaught would be a great asset. A star frigate is just a captial scale escort.John Ramses wrote:I have been wondering. Yes, if we totally rebuild it to be very different, it will still be a frigate.
]because it is a weak and pathetic ship. Why was it left aside so easily?
It was a theatre shield, not a planetary shield. Also, another question. During the Battle of Hoth. How the heck did the Empire land troops if the planetary shield was impenetrable? No ships could have gotten through to land troops...

Aside from what Ender already said, there exist carrier- and combat-versions based on the same or similar hulls.
The optimist thinks, that we live in the best of all possible worlds and the pessimist is afraid, that this is true.

I was annoyed that the Battle of Coruscant was just wall-to-wall Venators, but was happy that no Acclamators were present, since they're an assault ship and have no place in a space battle.
What annoys me however is Venators being used for troop transport on both Utapau and Kashyyk. It should've been mixed Venator/Acclamator squadrons, not only Venators.

The assaults on Utapau and Kashyyyk were both rapid response teams. Acclemators seem to be used more in large scale invasions. Perhaps more came to Kashyyyk later on, because we start seeing more armor later on. Venerators seem to carry mostly light infantry. And at Utapau, they didn't expect there to be a major Seperatist force there, it was a search and destroy mission. Most of the Acclemators were probably involved in the Outer RIm sieges and assaults on Seperatist strongholds. The Venerators were probably all the Republic had availible at the time.
Re: Acclamator
It wasn't left aside. It's still used by the Empire even in the OT trilogy.John Ramses wrote:Why was it left aside so easily?
This is from WOTC. You can see TIE Interceptors, which are post-Yavin and Acclamators (or variants of them) in formation in the skies of a Core world.

It is an Acclamator-class, not a Venator-class.Darth Garden Gnome wrote:Why are those two cylindrical ships on either side of the Venator in the middle?

That's an Acclamator, not a Venator.Darth Garden Gnome wrote:Why are those two cylindrical ships on either side of the Venator in the middle?
Personally, in my mind, when I think of Imperial fleets now I think of dozens of Acclamators, Venators, Imperators and a few Executors in the middle, with the film TIEs buzzing around in the middle. EU ships, even the wedge shaped ones, just can't take root in my imagination.

Actually, they look kind of like Techno Union Battleships. Weird.Darth Garden Gnome wrote:Brain fart, allow me to rephrase it all:

Maybe a weird version of Dreadnaughts, or Carracks. They look too small though.

Ah, that makes more sense. And now that I look at your previous post, it looks like that's what you intended.Darth Garden Gnome wrote:Brain fart, allow me to rephrase it all:

Anyway, I'm guessing they're some sort of transport ship. I'm not sure though since I haven't seen anything like them until I saw the picture.

Um, yea...
So like Vympel said, I don't think any of these were stopped being used. If these ships had 'existed' during the making of the OT they would have been used. You would have Troop Ships, Carrier Ships and Battle Ships,

I dont have a problem envisioning Immobilizers or Victories in an Imperial fleet, but it is true that the smaller vessels (Carracks, Nebulons, and the like) are hard to picture.Personally, in my mind, when I think of Imperial fleets now I think of dozens of Acclamators, Venators, Imperators and a few Executors in the middle, with the film TIEs buzzing around in the middle. The IRL reason is obvious, I meant the "IC" reason.
Anyone know where I could find info on these modifications and models on the net? (besides the official site and theforce.net)Aside from what Ender already said, there exist carrier- and combat-versions based on the same or similar hulls.

Hey, that's a solid explanation for one of the things that previously annoyed me (lack of Acclamators).Trooper TK12746 wrote:The assaults on Utapau and Kashyyyk were both rapid response teams. Edit: Now that you've started me chugging, I recall a scene I'd somehow glossed over.. at the end of Republic Commando, several Acclamators are seen descending into Kashyyk's atmosphere. Backs up your explanation well enough.
