Personally its strong, we might see some benchs(other Inq article quotes 7000+ 3dmark05 scores, but 3dMark isn't that impressive) when nVida actully announces the cards. The Inq wrote:G70, Geforce 7800 GTX final specs out
302 million transistors, eight vertex shaders
By Fuad Abazovic: Wednesday 15 June 2005, 09:49
WE MANAGED to get the final remaining details about the soon to be launched Geforce 7800 GTX. We revealed most of it already, but here we go again.
The chip is made using a 110 nanometre process and will have 302 million transistors. So far, this is the biggest chip ever built for graphics use. As we revealed before, the chip will be clocked at 430MHz and will use 1200MHz memory with a 256 bit GDRR3 interface.
It will have eight vertex shader units and will be able to process 24 pixels per clock. Nvidia claims that it has 24 pipelines. Some senior editors are referring to this chip as NV47 as it's nothing more than the NV47 was supposed to be, an NV40 with more pipelines and two more vertex shaders.
The peak fill rate of the card is 6.88 Billion/second (16 ROPs at 430 MHz). Bilinear-filtered texel fill rate is 10.32 billion/second when all 24 pipelines work at the full 430MHz.
The peak power consumption of the chip is 100 to 110W, all the information and benchmarks of the Geforce 7800 Ultra or two cards under SLI will be revealed at six in the morning European time, on the 22nd of June. µ

Wonder what ATI's response will be other than increasing the amount of 512MB cards will be

Eh eh? Thats it, No massive hundred Mthz jump? No DDR3? No magic flying fucking pixies!?
Ah well can't be helped, hope this is a spoof
So how much exactly things faster does this have compared to the 6800?

The R520, which apprently has no relationship to the R500 in the Xbox360.the .303 bookworm wrote:Wonder what ATI's response will be other than increasing the amount of 512MB cards will be
The R520 is another evolution from the R400(X800), which is itself evolved from the R300(9700).
Bean, rumours go from anywhere 1.5 times the 6800Ultra, to 2 times without SLI.
But since inhouse its being called the NV47(what the current new card should have been) unofficially atleast, I don't expect it will be anything more then a refresh or a minor improvement.

The correct question is "how much cheaper will this make all the other cards?"Mr Bean wrote:Eh eh? Thats it, No massive hundred Mthz jump? No DDR3? No magic flying fucking pixies!?

...you mean other than the DDR3 that the eixsting high-end cards already use?

ATI are running a new unified pixel and vertex shader pipeline. Which is how Windows Graphic Foundation is going to work. This puts them a generation ahead when Longhorn hits, and is apparently already proving to be very fast and adaptable (the first chip to use it will be XENOS, the X360 GPU, which will be close to the basis of the R600).the .303 bookworm wrote:Wonder what ATI's response will be other than increasing the amount of 512MB cards will be
They're also working on X interconnections, using diagonal interconnects, rather than right angled wiring, which will apparently make layouts cheaper
R520 is going to be more of a keeping up with the joneses part, it will be much like G70, an incremental advance, not a major boost.
The currently known *rumored* specs aren't exactly impressive. I'm hoping to see major architectural improvements
I'm going to be skipping this generation at any rate - my 6800GT can play every game I have (including the BF2 demo) at 1920x1200 with at least 2 AA and 8 AF at smooth frame rates (FryCry is the worst, dipping to 20 FPS in some spots, and HL consistantly stays over 30, at 4 AA).
