Perimeter - slightly flawed but brought some new interesting concepts to the otherwise stale RTS genre

Gregory Horror Show - completely insane Japanese game which is vaguely survival horror. More people need to experience the horror of Catherine the pink dinosaur nurse.

WarioWare MegaGames (Gamecube one) - the perfect game to (try and) play with a few friends after a few drinks. Suitable for anyone, even non-gamers. Only downside would be over-enthusiastic controller throwing in the one controller-game (which is complete with prancing leotard-wearing Tingle-like figures and hilariously urgent music) resulting in possible black-eyes etc.

Actually preferred the original EU for some reason. Still, EU and EUII are both fun games. HOI2 is a solid game as long as you like WWII grand strategy games. Paradox makes games and designs them so that people can really modify them to a high degree. The basic "engine" is untouchable, but events, unit stats, province stats, some aspects of AI, some of the underlying game modifiers (movement, replacements, etc...) unit graphics, etc... can also be changed.

Another one that comes to mind: Populous: The Beginning. Very fun god sim that didn't really seem to get as much exposure as it should've.

I played the demo and loved it, tried to find it at my local software stores, but no one carried it... guess I'll have to check e-bay one of these days.

Rebellion.

Sure it was slow, the graphics were crappy and it took for friggin ever to do anything. But no other game let me have roaming fleets of death and destruction with 1 Death Star and 10 SSD minimum per fleet, with Boba Fett at the helm.

Good times.

Also force training random Imperial Terds to rival Luke was some fun.

I don't hear enough love for Zero/Project Zero/Fatal Frame bandied around on the 'net. They're the high point of horror games, scarier than Silent Hill, compelling and twisted storylines, and more fun as a game than any other horror game.

I totally agree. The first Battlezone was really kickass. The only problem with it was the NSDF missions were really bad, what with the game holding your hand in every mission. The Commies had the best campaign where you had to think about what you did. I remember stealing every Blackdog scavenger in the last mission and decimating their base with Splinter mortars. Good times.

Battlezone 2 is a good example of what happens when you take a good game and totally offset it with poorly implemented additions. Scrap pools totally destroyed the need to control precious resources. One time, I literally filled a mission level with Guntowers in order to win. The whole point of the game just became about racing o build the most powerful units for sacking the enemy. The Scions were also really weak as enemies except for their Guntowers from hell.

Edit: And the tracked vehicles and walkers in BZ 2 sucked. They were impossible for a player to control, which is a real shame since they were the most powerful units in the game.

You can buy it on Gamestop for $13.00.

Superpower for the PC is a good game -- it came out a while ago, but I still play it. Heh, actually I play it now more than any other game I own.

Allegiance. One of the most innovative games ever, and it died a slow death because of the learning curve. It's free, now, though and there's a sizable community dedicated to keeping it alive/making fan patches.

A third vote for Europa Universalis II. Were my attention span to match its length, I could actually finish a game.

Soldat. For a free game, it runs on just about any system and is still pretty cool. Nothing beats taking a shotgun on CTF_Death, jumping down the entire way flinging grenades, using your rocket boost to land perfectly on the flag. You grab it, roll down the side, grenade someone respawning, and are reading to jump again to reach your flag, and some bastard snipes you in the back of the head. The flag flies, and a teammate jumps, shoots someone closer to it in midair, grabs it, and rockets up to your flag for the win. Truly awesome capture, especially the 'Oh Shit' where the flag was in midair with everybody set to dogpile for it..

This thread reminded me that Jet Force Gemini was pretty cool, too, though the "collect all the little bears" mission really pissed me off. There should have been an option to shoot the leader in the face and take that last damn piece by force.

I didn't know that!!
*DG goes everyone knows where, trying desperately to find the full game available for download*
I found it!

Then it will only be a matter of trying one of the DOS emulators, as soon as the dl is complete.

Without a doubt, project nomad. Described by some as a "space opera", it's a glorious space combat adventure game.

The premise: An alien craft has crash-landed on earth. The ship is repaired and launched with a single pilot, you. You go on a non-linear adventure through the stars, fighting the evil Korok machines and the disenfranchised Belcosian Raiders. Along the way you meet a variety of aliens, some friendly, some not so much. All unique and interesting. You trade, fight and "mine" your way to greatness assisting your new furry friends (some of them are furry anyway) in their fight against the evil machines. There is so much to do, see, and explore. I know I played it extensively and never saw everything. It's a amazingly fun game, and now considered abandonware. Despite being from '93, it's got pretty nice graphics, a fun though simple combat system, and really just so much to do see, etc. I seem to recall it being against forum policy, so I won't give you a link to the-underdogs where you could download the game.
I've yet to get the game to work with sound with dosbox, but I'm sure someone adpet at it might be able to.

I highly suggest giving this game a try, it's a classic. And if you want a tip, the Arden love chocolate.

I'd post the link but I don't know if that'd fall under linking to warez or whatever even though Microsoft released the source code February 2004.

Battlecity is a simple but very addictive game. Get it here: http://www.looble.com/bcity/

It's a simple multiplayer game that's kind of like a cross between a RTS and a FPS with tanks. Pretty fun though.
