Captured droid tech.

Post by Chardok »

something I've wondered since AoTC. We see SBD's with Wrist mounted rapid-fire blasters. Then we see clone troopers lugging around precursors to the E-11, etc. Why wasn't the tech which allowed the droids to have wrist-mounted blasters adapted to fit on the wrists of the Clone trooper/storm trooper suits? Seems like a huge advantage to have both hands free as opposed to occupied.

I'm aware of the targeting difficulties that a wrist mounted weapon would face. but doesn't the trooper's helmets have a targeting reticle thingy in it? I could swear they did.

Maybe the wrist blasters are dependant on things in droids that can't be put in Armour such as big power generators or such.

The weapon obviouslu isnt just the two barrels slapped on the fore arm so that must just be the tip off the ic berg.

Oh and Boba Fett did have wrist lasers built into his amrour...

Probably didnt have the power compared to the DC-15 blasters.
Also Clones need their hands free for piloting etc..
The clone commandos (SW: republic commando) had wrist daggers on their hands instead.

Another explanation is that its more economical to just supply one big gun rather than a back up weapon when the clones are considered relatively expendable.

I don't think it's a question of accuracy - the helmet should help out and we know Jango's/Boba's/Mandolioran's helemts work like this, it's a question of mechanics. A droid's interior is made up of a power core, and then everything else supports it and gives it manuverability, and then weapons.

A clone's arm is made up of ligaments and tendons, his body houses his power core, which is insufficient - I would hazard - to power a powerfull enough blaster.

'Sleeve' blasters are around in the SW-verse, but they lack the raw stopping power necessary for anything other than someone wearing everyday clothes. It appears Han's blaster is kinda the excpetion on size and sheer oomph!

I suppose you could just use the same components for an existing blaster rifle and mold a casing that fits onto the back of your arm. Arguably, you could do the same thing with a contemporary real-world firearm.

Yeah, they might have a helmet HUD reticle, but sighting is not the problem. In fact, if you made a gun that straps on to the back of your wrist, you could still put a set of iron sights or an optical sight on it.

The real problem with a wrist-mounted gun is shitty stability.
In real life, the difference between a pistol and any shoulder weapon is huge. If you had two weapons with equal inherent mechanical accuracy, the one that has a shoulder stock and a fore-end would allow a shooter to fire much tighter shot groups.

Regardless, just as wrist-mounted guns in the real world would be silly, I don't see what wrist-mounted blasters would achieve. Why exactly would keeping both hands free be a huge advantage? If you have a blaster rifle in your hands, by all means use it!

If you mean using their hands to perform other tasks while not attacking an enemy, then this is easily accomplished by laying down their blaster on the ground, or better yet, simply putting a sling on it.
