Got my preminum edition in 99, since then I've manged to lose the Core Contigancys and trying to play the orgional only crashs my computer on radnom levels.White Haven wrote:TA itself was republished in a jewel-case edition a few years back, I picked up several copies just in case. The Core Contingency expansion pack, however, remains nearly impossible to get one's hands on, and it introduces a lot of REALLY sexy stuff. I found a copy in an old-beat-up combo pack on the top shelf at an EB about 5-6 years ago, and bought it on the spot.

Radar targetting system is my god. That is all.

It did highlight the stupidity of the original though: radar was almost useless on large maps, as you had to manually select targets out of the 200-odd in one dot. Firecontrol systems shouldn't have been the horribly expensive things they are. They made those Defender turrets useful!

Defenders? Shit, man, try massed batteries of Guardian medium-range plasma artillery, firing from multiple sources. Ripped tank columns to shreds, shit, it ripped naval battleships into shrieking fragments.

One of the devs is apparently a Something Awful goon, and posted the following over in the Games forum over there...

it's still not a full game yet, so i can't say...
and while how good a game is is subject to opinion, if you loved TA...
you're gonna shit yourself. so much bigger in everything.
unit #'s won't be a problem i don't think but i don't know exactly what they're shooting for. lots, i'm assuming. we won't really know till we get the chance to optimize all the shite so we can really see system impacts. but then, there's always LOD's.
as for jeremy soule, i'm not sure. i'm assuming that he's at least going to be asked to do it (please oh please), but if not we have a really kickass guy who's in-house who won't dissappoint either. it'd be cool to have jesper kyd if nothing else worked out, love the hitman soundtracks.
Ah, the three vulcan and four bertha combo, placed on the high ground and surround by reems of air defense turrets... and powered by shit loads of fusion reactors. I could only use it on a few maps, but it was enough to keep the Core far from my base.White Haven wrote:Defenders? Damn I'm temped to fire up TA!

I still remember sealing off a mountain pass one time by building a ring of defenses around the mouth, with a mass of Guardian batteries behind it set to fire at the ground inside the pass in staggered ranks. To attempt to breach the pass would mean charging through a solid, constant curtain of fire and death, and if you made it through, the /rest/ of the defenses were waiting for you, along with the wreckage of previous attempts to get in the way. That was awesome.

Waitwaitwait...Stark...where is Stark, and what have you done with him! He hates /EVERYTHING/, and you're claiming to like a game. WHERE IS STARK!

Holy shit. That looks AMAZING!
And he hates typical RTS design!
There are now officially 2 PC games I want to buy this year. An increase of 100%!
Just for WhiteHaven, I'm going to hope that the units aren't designed around forcing people to use specific combinations, and that there will not be tight unit limits. From reading the article, however, (thanks U-235 ) it seems unlikely. I am officially Looking Forward(tm) to this game.
Oh, and they didn't show off much camera flexibility. Erm... I'm having trouble nitpicking such an apparently stunning game. I'll get back to you?

And the SLBMs launching from the sub... the unattainable holy grail of TA realized in this new engine... oh jesus the boys at GPG have listened to at least some of the desires of the TA fanbase...DPDarkPrimus wrote:Those nuke pictures make me understand why Shep gets so hot about them.
I can't wait for this. I hope and pray to the Great Worm Spirit desperately there's a beta test I can get into for this.

One day, there'll be a post on the website. It'll say Supreme Commander Be--

In any case, I don't care if this isn't gonna be about the Core and Arm, I like the fact we're seeing a new thing.
TA had some of the best explosion graphics for its time. Only some of the most recent games have better explosions. Pale, thin explosions suck ass.Stofsk wrote:Isn't anyone else excited by CHUNKY EXPLOSIONS? You're a true TA fan if you are.
There are the Terran/Cyberions(evolved from the terrans long ago)/Aeon(conquered & smashed into the ground by the terrans long ago), otherwise known as Arm/Core/Alien.Stofsk wrote:In any case, I don't care if this isn't gonna be about the Core and Arm, I like the fact we're seeing a new thing.
