yes, but the US never intended to make Vietnam a part of it, were as the Empire would intend to do that to UFP, so there is quite a diffrence.

a senator from insignigant planet wouldn't gain such power unless he/she/it was really charimatic, also the fact He is a senator to begin with means that Alderaan must be a sectorial capital and you're of course ignoring Bail Antilles of Alderaan (from TPM) who was one of the three chancellor nominees and IIRC all of those nominees came from planets that at least in mid rim (Malistare and Alderaan could both be core worlds, but Naboo is mid rim world)

I wouldn't dare dispute Alderaan's political power. After all, I appear to have a broader range of Star Wars knowledge than Enola's friend, who for all I know may not have even seen ROTS.

And that's my point. Yes, her statement was stupid, because we know better. We know the tech disparity is huge, we know th crushing advantages the EMpire has, we know for actual fact that the Empire burns protestors alive. Does this mean she does? No.
