Advent Rising

Post by Darksider »

Has anyone else played this awsome 3rd person action/adventure game for the XBOX?

It's buggy in some spots, but it's still pretty good. And it's got a great soundtrack, and the storyline is very good for a game. Apparently they got Orsen Scott Card to write it.

I was considering buying it, but the cashier at the Gamestop I went too told me it was awful. They generally have pretty good taste, but I am interested in seeing some other opinions.

I thought it was good, but i'd either rent it, or wait 'till the price comes down to buy

I agree with the cashier, I dont like this game it has way to many problems also they ripped off several sci fi's to create a crappy patchwork storyline which has been too overdone in my opinion

Thought it was fun, but it's pretty short so I'd reccomend rental over purchase.

It's got a few bugs but the only one that ever cropped up when I played was that the targeting system wouldn't let go of a dead enemy if there was nothing else around ot lock onto.

I had heard it was written (the story the game was based after) by Orson Scott Card, so I wasnt expecting it to be too great story wise.

there wasn't a story the game was based after. Orson Scott Card actually wrote the game script.

It looked like a new HALO when I saw it.

hmmm. I'll try to do this with as few spoilers as possible, but future players beware!

The invasion of Gidion's home planet, Edumaya, is very similar to the Covenant Invasion of Earth in HALO 2, except the Seekers are waging a full on assault, rather than the paltry "let's hit one city then leave once we've got whatever we need" the Covvies did.

I have been ify with OCS after he blasted Star Wars fans.

I think thats the only reason holding me back from checking the game out.

It's got a pretty good story, and it gets really fun after you max out your psionic powers, or at least get the really cool ones. It's only real problem are the bugs, and it's got horrible voice acting in a couple of the cutscenes. Not all of them though, most range from decent to pretty good.
It's worth a rental at least IMO.

If you're going to be iffy with OCS, do it because of his religious fanaticism and rampant homophobic bigotry rather than his distate for Star Wars.
