Rui skids to a stop near the departure platform, after using the holonet to send some credits back to his family(willingly giving up 1000 of them), he was afraid of missing his next transport. Instead of of heading to the passenger ramps like most would, he goes to seek out the captain.

((1000 credits, you say? I'll be deducting that from your equipment list, then. You're lucky Otzo even has Holonet access, as I'm sure Dio certainly does not.))
Alright, so you transfer those funds and start walking to your next transport; a rather large, old vessel stationed on the landing field outside the main terminal building. You register your ticket and head up into the ship, which is a cargo hold has been simplisticaly set up for passengers with some seats and basic accomidations.
((Did I read that right? You want to speak with the ship's Captain?))
"Excuse me, sir?" one of the available space liner attendants replied to your request. "You want to speak with the Captain? I really don't think that's necessary; Rimward Spacelanes has already settled everything our flight needs with this craft's owner. We'll be taking off shortly, and the trip itself will only be about an hour at the most." He politely asks you to be patient and take a seat among the other dozen or more passengers.

Rui sighs disgustedly. He really disliked dealing with larger companies. Too much beauraracy, and never enough room to haggle. Not much else coming to mind, he moves over to his seat and sits down.

((For the record about extra character points, I will *not* be adding additional character points to characters for this prelude. Too much of a hassle to round eveyrone up and re-finalize character sheets again, and the 7D starting skills seems to be sufficient.))
((Though for the record, Character Points can then be spent on any skills to boost them by one pip. This includes new skills not on your character sheets, so be sure to reference the common skill list on page 1 if you want to add any of them @ +1 over their Attribute. Let me know if any of them still need explaining or if you want to know what skills a certain type of action/ability you have in mind would fall under.))
((The number of character points spent on raising a skill (always 1 pip at a time) is equal to the number of D in the skill it's currently at. 3D+1 to 3D+2 would cost 3 points, 3D+2 to 4D is also 3, 4D to 4D+1 is 4 points. Specializations cost half the D rounded up (so Drunmur's Heavy Blaster Carbine skill would cost 3 character points to go from 6D+2 to 7D, and 4 character points to later move up to 7D+1). I'll be giving out more points after some amount of progress and adventuring, which can then be spent to improve skills during some sort of lull in the action. I'll point out when they can be spent for skills.))

((Bah, I process the last moves in 15-20 minutes, and nobody responds for the rest of the week.))
((Unless anybody outright complains, I'm going to bump Drunmur forward onto the ship, and assume he was generally successful with the rest of his mission in killing Ull-Meki. That means he can pick up his reward on Dio and he can decide whether or not he picked up the bodyguard's vibroblade and 50 credits.))
((Tomorrow morning I'll write up the description for what exactly happens, but generally the rest of the passengers come aboard and the ship takes off. I may just extend that scene into arriving at the destination as well, since it's a short, dull trip.))

((I said you were being bumped forward to being on the ship, not outside the apartment. If this were still Tuesday night it'd be one thing, but after this many days for just a prelude it's best in my experience to reel it in and bump it forward. I'm also sticking with the items I selected as available to take, though I'll add the comlink as I forgot that one. The laser carbine is too bulky and too underpowered to be of use)).
*Fasts-forwards*
Drunmur steps onto the large loading platform among over a dozen other individuals, and two droids. The platform is raised up into the cargo bay and everyone steps off and takes most of the remaining seats, leaving only six or seven open. A white and purple astromech droid rolls over to a felinoid woman's seat and parks itself there.
After what seems like little more than a couple minutes, the liner attendants inform everyone they are ready to take off. The ship rocks a bit in flight but the seats are secure enough to nullify the effect at least untill orbit (it would be easier to tell when that occurs if there were any windows on this deck). Very little happens on the flight, other than perhaps mild chit-chat among some passengers and the initial handing out of food and beverages, but the whole experience lasts less than an hour including take-off and landing, as the massive vessle lunges out of hyperspace and presumably makes its way down to the planet. The ship shifts and then finally comes to a stop. The flight attendants chosen to serve this flight stand up, taking a couple seconds to deliberate on how exactly to unload their things.
Just then the ships' intercomm clicks on. Speaking through it is a dull, raspy, electronic voice, made even more harsh and almost unintelligible by interference and static. "We have landed. Rimward Spacelanes, you have twenty minutes to get your damn passengers off my ship."
The attendants ask everybody to collect their things and move onto the platform, picking about fifteen for the first group ((this includes the players)). Just then, previously dormant over on the other side of the hold, the ship's copper squid-shaped loading droid lurches to life, floating over a crate and moving it onto the platform along with the passengers. One of the attendants jogs over to the intercomm panel and addresses the captain. "Sir, wait a minute, we need time to get our passengers offboard!"
"I gave you time. You have *twenty* minutes to get off. I am not holding up my business for your filth." The 4-armed bucket-shaped droid grabs e second crate.
"Thorrings, lower the platform, we'll just have to be quick and stay out of its way." The uniformed man by the intercomm shouts to one by the platform.
"Right" he replies. "Ok everyone, just step away from those crates and the edges of the platform and do not step off untill the platform has come to a complete stop. He lowers it and brings it onto the ground. Everyone steps off and heads their own ways as the droid pops out and sets down another crate of refined metal.
This spaceport, or whatever passes for it on Dio, is located in the delapidated metropolis of Northfen. It is little more than a paved landing field- barely large enough for the bulk freighter- and a single traffic control/registration and refueling/repair building.
*Rolls Knowledge for Bureaucracy*
Judging by this kind of loosely-managed planet and spaceport setup, it is not required for individual passengers to normally register themselves or their passengers on arrival. You can simply head for some informational building or job registration office instead.
The city appears to be a smattering of squat ferrocrete buildings, no more than two or thee stories tall. Many are not in the best of shape.
A large sign propped up against the spaceport building, reads in faded lettering:

((Your employer isn't on Otzo, as I determined last week. You can pick up your payment of 200 credits in Northfen here on Dio, probably through an electronic transaction at a bank or credit machine. Should be one within a block or two of the port. I'll add that aquired money and comlink to your equipment, and subtract 20 for the taxi fare.))Captain tycho wrote:((Uts, is it okay to assume I got some creds/skooma from my employer before I boarded the ship?))

Yeah, you do that. And Drunmur gets his money as well ((Let's just say the nearest credit teller machine is in a hotel lobby. Drunmur needs to clarify whether or not he took the bodyguard's vibroblade. It was rather obvious he misread what I stated was available so I'll need that re-stated.))
((I should point out that I recommend the players sticking together, at least in no more than 2 groups. I'll be able to GM better and it kinda defeats the purpose of what I outlined for the players' party.))

He smiles at the Ithorian driver and directs him towards the work registration office as he gets into the speeder. Not much else to do as they move through the streets, he looks around at the scenery as it goes by.

((Crikey, this is the kind of thing I was thinking of when I said this open-ended adventure wasn't 'freeform'. Let's get this hopefully cleared up right here and now so we don't have anymore misunderstandings. I somehow knew I should have written up a longer openting post...))
((First of all, I'm the one who determine what happens; if I wanted the players to descripe their environment as well as their actions, I would have said so. The players are supposed to concentrate on what they're doing and what they want to do, while the GM determine what's around them, what's available to do, and what happens as a result of their actions. Second, Northfen's Taxis don't patrol the streets; they have to be called and directed to your location, and are mostly used for long distances by people familiar with the service. And they're four-wheeled cars, as speeders are expensive imports. Also there's such an office within a few minutes walking distance, which if they players informed the GM they were looking for, would have been directed to an information terminal to find such info. I don't know if the driver would be an Ithorian or not, but I'll let it slide, other than the fact it's a player-created NPC, which I didn't expect to see runnig around here.))
((And I did point out that the point of the prelude/test-run setup adventure back there was to allow the players to set up their connections and assemble together, as well as trying out skills. But that's the last time I try such a thing, as it messed up the pace and wasn't used for organizing. I've clarified what exact year this is set in (on the first page, opening post), as I admittedly didn't specify beyond the Imperial era.))

Anyhow, After failing to spot any taxis along the road, Ken'ohkeyes starts walking along a long strech of stores and light commercial fronts, eventually spotting a registration office up a couple blocks. In a minute or two, he steps inside the small, barely-decorated waiting room. There does not seem to be anyone in it, asides from the ruggedly-dressed man seated at a table on one end. He's busy sorting through a stack of datapads, checking data on them with a desk-mounted console. It seems the whole establishment is this one room/open office place.

((That's perfectly fine.))
There's an information terminal sitting right inside the lone spaceport building, right by the windows of the entrance. It's got a back-lit city map over it and a small holo-projector with simple-to-use labeled buttons.
*Rolls Technical of 2D+2*
Information regarding job-finding is pretty much one of the first options, another sign of the planet's emphasis on brining in new employment. After some flashy ads and marketing phrases like "Dio is a serene world of opportunity!", you see it point out a local registration office which should provide listings and consultation.
It's a couple blocks up from this bare-bones airstrip in the middle of a town too large for its populace. ((After walking there, you enter the same building described to Ken'ohkeyes above, with the added fact that Samas' character is already there))

((I did some cookin' and fleshed out a few backstory hooks some players have provided. I think i've double-checked everything that has/hasn't been said, so I can give some more knowledge of what's known about them))
((Ken'Ohkeyes:)) The Human at the desk is a husky, middle-aged sort of worker with a heavy brow and a chin covered in black stubble, sitting at his cluttered desk in a heavy brown jacket and an old loosely-buttoned pocketed shirt. He has four half-emptied mugs sitting on his desk among the stacks of handheld datapads used for notes and records.
He glances up at you and the recently-arrived man in the overcoat, takes a long look at the empty row of chairs on one side of the room, and goes back to shifting through a stack. "What kind of work are you lookin' for, and how qualified are you to do it?" he asks without emphasis.
((Drunmur:)) Your employer conducts business with you indirectly- never in-person, as in usually over comlink, data transmission, or through another contact. You only know this individual by the name of 'Noldt'. He gets work sent to you, you get it done for him, he makes sure you get rewarded; that's all you've needed to know. The last message indicated you'd receive a call on Dio for a task that'd take more time and use of your talents. Judging by the local time, you should be getting this afternoon, no more than two hours from now. This town certainly looks like it's seen much better days, but it's large and active enough to find something wirth while in the meantime short of drifting off to the Heavenly Hunting Grounds on your skooma pipe.
((Ghito:)) This isn't that much of a 'mystery client', as you at least know it's known as Blflurrda Power Systems Ltd. Apparently some kind of family-owned corporation's subsidiary, possibly one of the local family businesses you've heard of but oyu can't say for sure. You're merely following an offer sent to you by an old associate, a Human named Tobid Pelston, a low-level employee of the company. The mysterious part about this is you're not quite sure what it *is* the job. Sure, he told you it was a temporary position rather than a single assignment, and that his employers were interested in your investigation abilities and business know-how, and your versatility and wits even more so. The exact details however were vague labels of communicating and representing the company's intentions, and for certain he only said for sure you'd be doing a lot of travelling and planning, organizing, and deal-making. But you've never known Tobid to get involved in bogus or useless jobs, and you've known him quite a while.

The exact details however were vague labels of communicating and representing the company's intentions, and for certain he only said for sure you'd be doing a lot of travelling and planning, organizing, and deal-making. But you've never known Tobid to get involved in bogus or useless jobs, and you've known him quite a while.

The Local Hotel (yes, the place is actually named that. They weren't kidding when you got reservations; It's complete with its own logo on the big sign out front, on the ashtrays in the lobby, and all that.) is small and rather clean & quiet for being within ten minutes of the spaceport. It probably sees more use from local business, or maybe there's simply not a lot of rough types of people frequenting a remote world like this. Regardless there's quite a few rooms still available this afternoon, which are 40 credits/night with 1-bed. Yours has been reserved for two nights, allowing the slim need for any long waits or delays.DPDarkPrimus wrote:I sigh melodramatically. "Like I could convince you otherwise. Come on, let's get to the hotel- you'll need to get a room of your own. You don't have a reservation, but a place like this, I think there's always a vacancy."
((You may have been given a frequency you can contact Pelston on to confirm your arrival and time you can meet with him, unless you've got some other means or pre-arranged time for arranging a meeting in mind.))
*Rolls Knowledge* You do in fact have the address for the company's office on your data organizer: it looks like it's an office/facility in a small town 30km southeast of this city. You'll probably need to order a taxi or aquire some other transportation to get there in reasonable time ((Just because this RPG has just started doesn't mean you'll have to run everywhere; this isn't Galaxies. ))

After getting checked in, I check the local comlistings for Blflurrda Power Systems Ltd's number, so I can call and let them know I've arrived.

*Rolls Investigation*
Fortunately this city still has a decent information network up and running at most places of business. You scroll through the company comm frequency listings on a stand-up terminal in the lobby.
((I'll assume you go ahead and call it, and get a standard business-like answer from the other line. It definitely sounds like Tobid Pelson's voice.))
