Could 4-Lom learn the Force?

Post by Battlehymn Republic »

He programed himself to accept an equation after observing Zuckuss during their career, and learns "intuition", a weird prophetic power. Could that be a more primitive, pseud-Force power?

With intuition, he later has a vision of being in a new Jedi academy with many young Jedi recruits. He does not know if he's learning the Force, or already mastered it by the time of his vision.

So, hypothetically, could he program himself to learn the Force? Why not? Could the Force affect his circuitry, and so in controlling his circuitry, 4-Lom control the Force?

My gut instinct would say no, since a) the Force is generated by life, and b) 4-LOM, being a droid, is not a biological organism, so there likely wouldn't be midichlorians in his structure.

However, he is a self-aware robot, and so one could easily argue that he is alive in a certain sense. I would agree with the hypothesis that, due to his sentience, he was able to develop insight that, coupled with a high processor speed, would allow for something that vaguely mimics the more intuitive aspects of the Force (though no telekinesis or anything like that).

Bookworm, Star Wars Tales is considered Infinities level. In other words, not canon.

No, you cannot become a force user. You are either born one or you are not born one. Droids are out of the question entirely, the closest 4-Lom could get to being a force user would be to become like Grevious. He had a vision of himself studying with Jedi, not being a jedi.

Very true. I'm just waiting for the EU to have 4-Lom and Zuckuss join the New Republic, and have 4-Lom fulfill his intuition vision. And they need to start their Bounty Hunters Guild, already!

BTW, I know something as local and obscure as Gand intuition wouldn't be explained, but how are non-Force powers of clairvoyance, telekinesis, and just psionics explained in general? Maybe 4-Lom could learn a pseudo, low-powered Force knock-off.

Dunno, but they do join the NR. Then 4-Lom is reprogrammed and goes rogue. They both become bounty hunters again, but not as partner.s

"Why Not" brings up the dreaded "M" word, from the mouth of Lucas himself.

The Force seems limited to biological life-forms only.

Magnadroids seem to be the answer to your question, their combat abilities seem to match that of Jedi, without actually using The Force.

Magnadroids are just fast and deadly. Same thing with Grevious, he is not forcesensitive, just extremely fast and with a processer attached to his brain that allows him to counter Jedi attacks instantly.

What is the "M" word? Midichlorians?

Palpatine made Force users out of regular men in Dark Empire 2. And Mara Jade wasn't born as a Force user, IIRC, but also got her powers from Palpatine.

Not true in either case. He made people an extension of his will. He possesed them. They didn't become force gifted. And I believe they had minor force talent anyway. Where did you get this bullshit about Mara Jade?

Not true. In Dark Rendezvous, we learn that the reason Vjun is so fucked up is because they found a way to artificially inflate midiclorian levels, in essence making force-sensitives out of non-force-sensitives. It proceeded to drive them crazy.

He says himself that he makes them Dark Jedi. I don't think he's talking about a promotion, especially since there's green light coming from his hands while he does it... There's an explaining text telling us that Palpatine-clone is giving them "the darkest of gifts" with his power or something like that. And the two guys do demonstrate force-choking ability later if I recall correctly (can't seem to find the last part of DE2 to check that though).

The bullshit about Mara Jade is from Heir to the Empire or Dark Force Rising. I think she says Palpatine made a special bond with her and that made her develop weak Force abilities.

Mara is Force senstive - was from birth - it was that her training was thwarted by the Emperor who taught her to draw on his power rather than the Force its self. Explaining why she couldn't hold onto that power after his death, and why she could become a Jedi after Luke trained her.

Nowhere in the Zahn books does it even suggest that the Emperor made her a Force sensitive when she wasn't one.

This may seem pretty heretical, but wouldn't it be possible for 4-Lom to graft living tissue to himself? A sort of reverse effect of what was done to Anakin? Unlikely, but possible.

Since the way in which Force users are able to actually influence and use the "energy field" is never explained, I don't see why 4-LOM couldn't do it.

He wouldn't generate any "Force", and he wouldn't be able to "hear" the midi's tell him what the "Will of the Force" is, but I can't see any reason why he would be unable to use it.

First if rocks can generate the Force (It is everything according to Courtship of Princess Leia, when Luke views force power), he can generate force power, not necessarily USE it. But there is precident for Droids with force abilities, there is one at the Culnarin acadamy according to the Living Force campaign guide.

Sources have been inconsistent on that. Some indicate that what we would consider "psychic" phenomena are merely aspects of the Force. Others indicate that there are quantifiable psionic powers not rooted in the Force.

Perhaps it would be wise if fewer of your 56 posts per day were one-line jokes and more were substantial contributions to their respective threads.

If the droid with Force Powers is from the EU, then it is ignored because it contradicts Lucas' statements on the Force. Everything living (and some nonliving) is part of the Force. Yet not everyone can use the Force. Even if 4-Lom grafted tissue onto him or was part of the Force, he still couldn't use it.

Unless it was tissue from a Force user and it was done to the extent that he basically became like General Grievous. But in that case, he would cease to be 4-LOM and become said Force user.

As I said earlier, the main sticking point is that 4-LOM is sentient, but not alive. With proper upgrades, he'd be able to act and think like a Jedi, but he'd never be able to be one.

General Grevious is not force sensitive, he is fast and a computer hooked up to his brain analyzes and counters attacks almost instantly.

I was referring to Grievous simply in the "brain inside a robot body" kind of way, and wasn't implying that he was Force sensitive.
