One thing's for certain, I'm never getting another VIA chipset- those games I mentioned above, with the aforementioned exception of KOTOR 2, I simply cannot play. Nor can I play Doom 3, for that matter, forgot about that one. The most annoying thing is my new videocard would be great for all those games.
Back in the KT266A days, VIA's PCI implementation wasn't very good. The SBLive was also unusually demanding about comformation to the PCI specification and as a result those two would not play nice with each other. VIA has supposedly cleaned up their act but I don't trust them with motherboard chipsets.

Ah, the old 686B southbridge! That brings back some memories. Now, why the hell VIA continued to sell that chipset - KNOWING that it was bad - is beyond me! That bug was the main topic of the Viahardware (now Sudhian.com) forums for well over a year (and the funny thing was, Viahardware was completely independent of VIA themselves, but VIA ignored the problem, leaving the community to figure out work arounds).
Artillery. Its what's for dinner.

In all fairness, VIA's 939-pin AMD chipset is damn solid...but yeah, I have to say that I don't fully trust them even now. Still, could be worse...could be SiS.
