CompForce effectiveness
Curiously, if CompForce is supposed to be a ready reserve of troops for the Empire to call upon, how come they've been little seen in the EU? How effective a force would they really have been?

With the fall of the Emperor, COMPNOR most likely ceased to be. CompForce was never liked by the regular Imp military, believing CompForce troops to be brainwashed fanatics who get the latest gear and best med facilities to say nothing of the spying done by the Observation branch of CompForce. Without the Emperor looking out for them, the raw units probably fell apart for lack of knowledge and connections, and the veterans probably went freelance or joined regular Imp units.

From SW Wiki (can someone confirm if this is accurate?)

Basically, CompForce sucks as a military force, and their only advantage is their high level of indoctrination. The regular military despises them, and generals use CompForce troopers as cannon fodder.Assault is the combat branch of COMPNOR. It is made up of volunteers recruited directly from the Sub-Adult Group, who undergo five years of training with a re-up option and recall-to-service obligation. Assault trains its recruits in fundamental combat skills, but puts more effort into political indoctrination. The quality of skills training is poor and the training conditions are often dangerous. CompForce training camps have been described as "training by attrition". Advanced combat drills involve live-fire exercises without any safety measures. Trainees are driven to the very limits of exhaustion and put through real-condition survival training without rescue options, all in the name of realism. CompForce has a high failure rate, and some training camps have a fatality/crippling disability rate as high as 22 percent.
However, this kind of training often results in poorly trained troopers, and the lack of support given in training mirrors the negligent attitude with which these soldiers are treated in the field. Because of Observation's political activities in the military branches, CompForce is despised by both Imperial Army and Imperial Navy units, who are naturally irritated by the presence of spies and often find they have better things to do in combat than back up struggling CompForce Assault Troopers. Compounding the problem is the perception that CompForce Assault is full of programmed flunkies who get the best medical facilities and latest equipment. The main de facto use Imperial Army commanders find for CompForce Assault Troopers is support troops for Stormtrooper landings . Assault units are also unofficially referred to as "soak" units, an operational euphemism for units used to absorb casualties for more useful troops.
