Problem with CPU temperature reading

Post by Hamel »

WTF man

I have a newcastle 3000+ processor at 2.2ghz and DFI LanpartyUT250gb mobo.

Everest says my CPU is at 37 degrees C. Smartguardian, which came in my motherboard CD, says it's at 54 degrees. I don't know which one is giving the accurate reading.
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

Here's what's happening. What Everest thinks is your CPU probe really isn't.

How do you figure that?

Anyway, I downloaded Sandra diagnostic software to see what it thinks of the temps.

Sandra says 44C
Smartguardian says 49C
Everest says 40C

3 different readings from 3 different diagnostic tools. Yeah.. lol.

the highest temperature in your computer when your not playing a game will always be your CPU. That would be the one listed as Aux in Everest. The probe that's connected to your CPU probably isn't where electrically most computer have them, and if Everest and Sandra think a different idea of which probe is the CPU, you'll get screwy answers. The software that your computer came with is likely to be the most accurate.
