The Hammertong Project (only read the tale once, long ago, so my memory isn't clear) was about the assassination of Luke Skywalker by a pair of twin Twi'lek assassins, wasn't it? Or am I totally misremembering the tale?

That is way off. Remember those two wierd looking chicks in the cantina sceen? Its about who they are and why they were there.

A quick rundown: They are Misryl gaurds who had been contracted as extra security at an Imprerial research station. When they realized thats what it was, they got pissed off and swiped a strike cruiser modified to carry a portion of a superlaser. They ended up crashlanding on Tatooine, tried to sell the thing to the highest bidder, and hilarity insued.

As I responded previously, how the fuck do the scattered remains of the Empire build a THIRD Death Star, with the SAME DESIGN FLAW as the FIRST Death Star??

I'm not going to say anything about Death Star II measurements.

Part of the long construction time is that the design and testing for the first Death Star still had to be hammered out as construction was proceeding. It's also possible that there are other unforseen complications which could be explored at a later date. Also, I don't have a start date for construction of the Death Star II, though I can confirm that the Star Wars Encyclopedia says that the Hammertong Project was specifically for the Death Star II.

Maybe the Death Star II was originally not a contingency plan, but rather part of a Death Star fleet. But once the first Death Star's primary flaw was exposed, Palpatine began to revise his plans. From Ep VI, it can be argued that the Death Star II's main purpose was not to act as a weapon of terror but to simply be bait. Very expensive bait that the Rebel Alliance just couldn't resist.

That is an exceptionally strange theory. Death Star fleets, and DS2 being made solely to function as bait, with no real intent to use it in any other way? Doesn't he realize that it was functional in ROTJ, hence it was obviously usable for purposes other than bait? Or that the starting date for DS2 is obviously sometime after TESB, since the opening crawl of ROTJ says that the Empire had now "begun" construction of a second Death Star?
