My image is of agony, my servants rape the land
Obsequious and arrogant, clandestine and vain
Two thousand years of misery, of torture in my name
Hypocrisy made paramount, paranoia the law
My name is called religion, sadistic, sacred whore.
Isn't that Sepultura, not Motorhead?
Slayer - Disciple (God Hates Us All!), Behind the Crooked Cross, and Read Between the Lines are probably their more memorable ones.

Atreyu - At Least I know I'm A Sinner is more of anti-hypocrisy.

KMFDM - Preach/Pervert

Ministry - the famous Psalm 69.

System of a Down (Yes, not metal, I know) - Plastic Jesus.

Tool - Eulogy (Its actually intended for Kurt Cobain, but can be interpreted to address some other deity :P)

Rye beat me to Fear Factory's anti-religious songs.

What is it with giving credit for really good songs to the people that just covered them?

Well, to be fair, they did cover it in like 1992, like 6 years after motorhead did it. Someone not well versed with motorhead beyond The Ace of Spades could easily miss it. I mean, take me, I thought it was originally by Satyricon till a few months ago!

It's like Procreation of the Wicked and Celtic Frost, I'd imagine.

P.S if you hit the link in my sig, most of that is probably antichristian or atheistic.

EDIT: HOW in fuck's name did I forget Corrosion of Conformity? They sing about not being religious LOADS, and I'm supposed to specialise in sludge metal!

Atheist Peace - Bad Religion

from The Empire strikes first. Easily one of the best BR albums.
Maybe it’s too late for an intellectual debate,
but a residue of confusion remains.

Changing with the times,
and developmentally tortured minds
are the average citizen's sources of pain.

Tell me what we’re fighting for—
I don’t remember anymore,
only temporary reprieve

And the world might cease
if we fail to tame the beast
from the faith that you release
comes an atheist peace.

Atheist peace.

Political forces rent
bitter cold winds of discontent
and the modern age emerged triumphantly.
But now it seems we've stalled
And it’s time to de-evolve
and relive the dark chapters of history

Tell me what we’re fighting for—
No progress ever came from war,
only a false sense of increase

and the world won’t wait
for the truth upon a plate
but we’re ready now to feast on an atheist peace.

Atheist peace

I notice that Liverpool Airport now has a nice big sign at the entrance, inscribed with the classic atheist line from one of that city's most celebrated sons: "Above us only sky". (That would be John Lennon, from Imagine)

Because it's not really atheist? It's a twist on conventional theology to be sure but not atheist by any stretch.

*DERAIL*

Believe it or not, I just recently discovered ATHF, (After a long period of thinking ATHF was sealab 2021, and I didn't much care for Sealab 2021) and I have fallen in love with it. Easily the funniest, most ridiculous cartoon on TV, and I have idolized Shake (for the moment..you know how I am with idols...airwolf, blah blah blah)

I...relate to how shake feels. Poor bastard, regards himself as sooo smart and sooo superior, and he would be, if he weren't so damned...stupid. :D

"When You're Evil" is okay, but it's not an atheist song.

However, "God Thinks" is seriously anti-Fundie.
God thinks all blacks are obsolete farm eqipment
God thinks the Jews killed his son and must be punished
God thinks the white man is Satan
God, they know what God thinks

God thinks we should all convert to Judaism
God thinks we must all be Christians and
God thinks we should all embrace Islam
God thinks the only true religion is Hinduism

And I
I know what God thinks
God thinks you're a waste of flesh
God prefers an Atheist

God thinks all people like you are evil
God thinks all people like you are an embarassment to creation
self-righteous, judgemental, first to throw the stone
and use His name for your own protection

God thinks the sun revolves around the Earth
God thinks there was something very wrong with Copernicus
God thinks abortion is murder and
God thinks everything that science gave us is wrong
God thinks women deserve it
God thinks AIDS is a form of punishment

I hate people who blame the Devil for their own shortcomings and
I hate people who thank God when things go right

And I
I know what God thinks
God thinks you're an idiot
God prefers a heretic

God God
God thinks all people like you are evil
God thinks all people like you are an embarassment to creation
self-righteous, judgemental, first to throw the stone
and use His name for your own agenda

God is a liberal
God is a democrat
God wants you to vote republican
never trust a man who puts his words in the mouth of god
and says that it's absolute truth
its lies and it smells like death
its all in a day's work taking money from the poor
Why do you think that God would need your dirty money
if he wanted to start a holy war?

self-righteous, judgemental, first to throw the stone
and use His name for your own protection

God thinks puppies need to die and
God thinks babies need to drown
'cause God is neither good nor bad
God is you and me
God is Everything

Well, this song really isnt "anti-god" but more of a metaphor for the double standard that alot of Christians and other religious folks have. Unborn by Reveille : "that old man, damn, he sure can talk
he said that i fucked jesus in a trailer park
n' that ain't the truth, it was in the ritz hotel
i wore a condom so i wouldn't burn in hell"
quite funny stuff if you ask me

Most of Reveille can count in some fashion...Modified Lie certainly can, Bleed the Sky does, although I'm still trying to figure out the lyrics to Look At Me Now. Seems more anti-fundamentalist than anti-Christian, but a song I like.

I'm rather surprised this guy hasn't come up yet. Some MC Hawking:

What We Need More of Is Science
I'm a disciple of science
I know the universe is compliance with natural laws,
but many place reliance on the psuedo-science of quacks and
morons and fools because,
their educations deficient,
they put faith in omniscient,
make believe beings who control their fate,
but the Hawk aint with it, dig it,
their Holy writ aint the least bit legit,
its a bunch of bullshit.

They need to read a book that ain't so damn old old,
let reason take hold,
though truth to be told,
they're probably already too far gone,
withdrawn, the conclusion foregone.
But maybe there is still hope for the young,
if they reject the dung being slung from the tongues,
of the ignorant fools who call themselves preachers,
and listen instead to their science teachers.

Chorus
Upon blind faith they place reliance,
what we need more of is science!

Uh yeah, that's right!
Fundamentalist assholes!
Screw the hole lot of them.

Look, I ain't thomas Dolby,
science doesn't blind me,
think you're smart? Form a line behind me,
you won't find me, truth to tell,
to be a man who suffers fools very well.
Quite the opposite in fact,
I aint got time to interact,
with crystal wearing freaks in need of a smack.
New age motherfuckers? Don't get me started,
I made more sense than them, last time I farted.

Not to put too fine a point upon it,
but the whole new age movement is full of shit.
Please allow me to elaborate,
explicate, expatiate.
from astral projection to zygomancy its a,
mish mash of idiocy.
Instead of the archaic worship of seasons,
they should explore logic and reason.

Chorus

Fucking new-agers!
Is there any amount of bullshit they won't swallow?
It's two-thousand-aught-three goddammit!
When are these morons gonna join us in the 21st century?

Fuck The Creationists:
Ah yeah, here we go again!
Damn! This is some funky shit that I be laying down on your ass.
This one goes out to all my homey's working in the field of
evolutionary science.
Check it!

Fuck the damn creationists, those bunch of dumb-ass bitches,
every time I think of them my trigger finger itches.
They want to have their bullshit, taught in public class,
Stephen J. Gould should put his foot right up their ass.
Noah and his ark, Adam and his Eve,
straight up fairy stories even children don't believe.
I'm not saying there's no god, that's not for me to say,
all I'm saying is the Earth was not made in a day.

Chorus
Fuck, fuck, fuck,
fuck the Creationists.

Break it down.
Ah damn, this is a funky jam!
I'm about ready to kick this bitch back in.
Check it.

Fuck the damn creationists I say it with authority,
because kicking their punk asses be me paramount priority.
Them wack-ass bitches say, "evolution's just a theory",
they best step off, them brainless fools, I'll give them cause to fear me.
The cosmos is expanding every second, every day,
but their minds are shrinking as they close their eyes and pray.
They call their bullshit science like the word could give them cred,
if them bitches be scientists then cap me in the head.

Chorus

Bass!
Bring that shit in!
Ah yeah, that's right, fuck them all motherfuckers.
Fucking punk ass creationists trying to set scientific thought back 400 years.
Fuck that!
If them superstitious motherfuckers want to have that kind of party,
I'm going to put my dick in the mashed potatoes.
Fucking creationists.
Fuck them.

That we dying younger hiding from the police man over there
Just for breathing in the air they wanna leave me in the chair
Electric shocking body rocking beat streeting me to death"

Always liked "Great Big Lie" by The Tea Party
od is pressure
god is pressure more or less
and it takes a lifetime
a life of lies to make a mess
ah but you suffer
i see you suffer with a smile
well look around yourself,
baby don't you think you're in denial
and it hurts so bad
to see your garden of debris
don't make a move now
it could be the thing that sets you free
all you say now
is a great big lie
(just say you didn't mean)
and you'll still deny
it's a great big lie
you pulled the plug
you pulled the plug to save your face
and i'd be the first
to reconciliate the grace
ah but you suffer
i see you suffer with a smile
look around yourself
don't you think you're in denial
all you say now
is a great big lie
(just say you didn't mean)
and you'll still deny
it's a great big lie

How 'bout John Lennon's "God" (more or less a litany of things he no longer believed in after the Beatles split up) and XTC's "Dear God"?

Then of course we have songs like "Disciples of the Lie" (Iced Earth) or "TV Crimes" and "Buried Alive" (Black Sabbath). Those are more anti-church than anti-God per se, but they still deserve a listen.

As critiques of formalised religion go, you could do a lot worse than Gene Simmons' contributions to KISS' woefully underrated Carnival Of Souls album, "Hate" and "Seduction Of The Innocent" to name but two.

Wild applause to Darth Wong and GrandMasterTerwynn for mentioning Queensryche and Jethro Tull respectively. You've convinced me I'm not the only one around here with taste .
