Lonestar's big thread 'o WESTPAC (56k unfriendly)
First, some navy pics.
When we were in 5th fleet the JMSDF had 3 vessesls in the NAG and GOO, the Choukai, Mashu, and Oonami. These three pics are of the Choukai, an AEGIS equipped DDG that lit off it's SPY-1 at the Iranian P-3 that tried to fly over and be an asshole whenever we RAS'ed (refueld-at-sea). While I have no pics of the P-3 (part of my duties are taking pictures of foriegn vessels/planes using the official Secret camera, so I was always doing that) this P-3 would fly over and irradiate it's missiles at us becuase they knew we couldn't light off our system with the oiler so close.
But the JMSDF Oiler Mashu was being escorted by a DDG and DD, and the Choukai always scared them off when we RAS'ed with them.
Mashu
Oonami
While on deployment we interacted with the Pakistani Navy quite a bit, Most often with the Shahjahan and Tippu Sultun since my pics of the TS suck, here's one of the Shahjahan.
Shahjahan
Rushmore, Which was one of 3 Amphibs riding with us.
Thach was the FFG in our ESG.
Tippecanoe was a AOR that hung around in the Indian Ocean.

"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."
Some of you may recall that we boarded a Dhow, and found 3 tons of Hashish. Now what, you may ask, did we do with the Dhow?

Great pics ... hope nobody was hurt as ships frantically maneuvered to be downwind of the burning dhow .....

Mrs. Spade didn't raise any children dippy enough to
make guesses in front of a district attorney,
an assistant district attorney, and a stenographer.

Ahh. Looks like something that'd get someone in big trouble though...Lonestar wrote:Wasn't me who needled-gunned it in. It was the CTT's (the EW-rate merged with the CTT's, who are the Navy's ELINT guys)Dalton wrote: HEY I thought you had said you were on the Richard

You see that rough-looking stuff on the deck? We call that non-skid. We needed to take it up and replace it anyway...Dalton wrote: Ahh. Looks like something that'd get someone in big trouble though...

I'm not poking fun at you, and I'm sorry if I gave that impression. I was just explaining the details of shipboard life.Dalton wrote: Ah, yeah man, sorry for the stupid questions. I'm just curious.
EDIT: To clarify, I wasn't even sure if y'all could see the "roughlooking" stuff without knowing to look for it.

Heh, it's OK, I'm a landlubber and used to it! My dad's the Navy man; he was on DD-629 USS Abbot in 1962. Apparently on one of the big guns. Which I think would be an awesome job.Lonestar wrote:I'm not poking fun at you, and I'm sorry if I gave that impression. I was just explaining the details of shipboard life.
