Question
I was watching Family Guy and Peter is given an award and it is a rip off of ANH, my question is, does it every explain where all those people came from? I mean, that was alot of pilots and troopers in that ceremony.
Re: Question
I assume you mean in the actual movie, and not in the skit.Agent Fisher wrote:I was watching Family Guy and Peter is given an award and it is a rip off of ANH, my question is, does it every explain where all those people came from? I mean, that was alot of pilots and troopers in that ceremony.
Its one of the major rebel cells. I would imagine there would be a good deal of personnel there. Its not too difficult to rationalize.

All of the guys wearing pilot uniforms are a bit of a curiosity because it implies that Luke must have bumped an awful lot of guys in order to get a seat in one of their precious starfighters. Either most of their pilots suck so badly that they can't be trusted with a starfighter over a farmboy, or it was a combination of Biggs and Leia vouching for him.

Biggs, Leia, and possibly also...Gold Leader, I believe it was? He met Luke on the tarmac and mentioned having flown with his father and, like Obi-wan, mentioned what a great pilot he'd been.Darth Wong wrote:All of the guys wearing pilot uniforms are a bit of a curiosity because it implies that Luke must have bumped an awful lot of guys in order to get a seat in one of their precious starfighters. The OT Inside the Worlds shows that there were bomber and interceptor craft based on Yavin that were not used in the Death Star run, so that would account for at least some of the pilots.
Who knows, maybe Yavin was a training base as well as a command base, and most of those guys in flightsuits were just cadets.

It's especially odd because I'm pretty sure it gets mentioned that only three fighter pilots survived the Death Star attack (Luke, Wedge, and one of the Y-Wings, IIRC). Those pilots can't have been involved in the attack, and why would they hold back part of their force in that fight? They almost certainly have to have come from elsewhere.

They may have lacked the appropriate fuels and munitions for some of their craft, or a large part of their force may have been down for maintenance. The Dark wrote:It's especially odd because I'm pretty sure it gets mentioned that only three fighter pilots survived the Death Star attack (Luke, Wedge, and one of the Y-Wings, IIRC). My take is that most of those pilots weren't stationed at Yavin prior to the battle. We know the RA abandon their base at Yavin at some point (I think a few weeks) after the battle and since that was a major base (I mean, Leia, Dodoona and Mothma (I think) were there), they may have called in fighters from other bases to provide escorts for the transports and patrols to keep a look out for any Imperial attack. The award ceremony probably didn't take place immediatly after the DS was destroyed, but probably a few days later.

Perhaps the fighters/ships those pilots were in charge of flying weren't up to the task. Unshielded z-95s or cloakshapes or something like that.

That makes sense. Because after you destroy the Death Star, you don't just stand around laughing and drinking with ceremonies while an ISD squadron is en-route...Jason von Evil wrote:My take is that most of those pilots weren't stationed at Yavin prior to the battle.
