Thanks. I guess I'll have to rewatch that episode.Matt Huang wrote:no, he was able to delay the assimilating action of the nanites. But without that strange radiation that would kill off a human but he has a resistance to, he would have been assimilated.

Nevertheless the borg was still defeated by the crew of the Enterprise, hence, defeated by one ship.Kamakazie Sith wrote:
A matter of fact. The E-D did nothing. She was nearly destroyed by the Borg cutting beam, if it hadn't been for the advantage that having Picard gave them then they wouldn't have won.
I understand that Descent was not a straight up fight, but nevertheless the skeleton crew led by Dr. Fucking Crusher beat a borg ship, albeit one not of the collective. The closest example of a straight up fight against the Borg was First Contact, but even then they still needed that hidden ace.

Clear edge to the Borg-Vong hybrid .... The Bong

For me, at least, I didnt mind the Vong because I thought it added a new, refreshing element to the SW universe. Certainly the zealotous, honor-mad villian is a Scifi cliche, but it hadnt been done too much in the SW universe, I thought it was pulled off fairly well. I found the Vong culture fairly interesting, if often predictable, and the characters it produced often interesting.Trooper TK12746 wrote:What did you like about the VOng (or didn't dislike)?
As for Bio-tech, if it was done the way that Biotech is often done, they would have probably failed. However, if one actually reads the books after the first few when the protagonists are still adapting to the alien threat, one realizes that Vong bio tech is actually shown to be inferior to metal tech, as it should be. Certainly, dovin bassals are powerful terror weapons, and can pack a punch, but Vong over-reliance on them leads to their weakness, not to mention the fact that they are inferior to regular shields anyways. The Vong must rely on numbers, trickery, and sewwing discord amongst there enemies. The idea that Vong tech is uber is a brainbug spread by haters who are so adverse to the very idea of Biotech that they disregard it in any form, and foolishly so.
As for the force immunity, I thought it created a decent threat for the Jedi to over come without having to resort to throwing yet another group of dark jedi against them. It also created philosphical quandries about the nature of the force, which I happen to like. And as with the Biotech, those who hate the NJO out of principle blow the Vong abilities way out of proportion. Outside of the first few books, no Vong warrior stands a chance against a Jedi in single combat, despite what some would have you believe.
There are things about them I dislike (too much Biotech, they use living clothing for instance) but overall, their faults dont bother me enough to make me cringe when I hear their name, not by a long shot.

Creating miniature black holes is not that remarkable for sci-fi. Making them vanish into nothingness, however, is incredibly stupid. A black hole has mass/energy, and when it evapourates, it does so in an enormous burst of gamma radiation.

I vote Vong, because they were assholes when they had no right to be. Their society is like Afghanistan under the Taliban, ruled by Muslim fundamentalists-- terrorists-- whose idea of a utopia is based on a small group of men hypocritically destroying everything that defines a man in the hearts and minds of their subordinates, so they can exploit their subordinates.
The Borg may be a communistic society, but at least the creation of their society is believable-- how human can you be when you've been forcibly lobotomized?
Besides, the EU writers should've stuck with the threat posed by the Sith and their hidden empire, instead of trying to "improve" upon Lucas' works by making up an all new threat. The Vong are like the antiaircraft "airburst" shells developed for the Yamato's 18 in guns-- they look impressive at first, but once readers realized how pathetic they were, they caused more harm than good to the EU's popularity.

Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.
Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.
They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)
