Wookies and pulling peoples arms out of their sockets
Ok, in ANH Han Solo says that wookies are known for "pulling" peoples arms out of their sockets. He says nothing about pulling arms off or "ripping" peoples arms off, just being able to pull them out of their socket. This means he can dislocate your shoulder.
When did this become a essentially another brain bug/wookie-wank and evolve into ripping arms off and tearing people in half? I am not saying wookies are not strong, but actually ripping arms off or tearing people in half is MUCH different than pulling them out of socket.
Does anyone else agree with me or am I the only one who sees it this way?
I was reading the Chewie vs Worf thread and alot of people were saying how Chewie would rip Worf's arms off or rip him in half and such. While he would beat the everlivin' piss outta Worf, I think the Wookie-wank needs to be curtailed a bit.

I can only offer this
So you see Wookies do pull people's arms off. About riping them in half, that I don't know. The Courtship of Princess Leia wrote:Chewbacca roared and leaped at the Nightsister, and she backed up a step. Chewie dodged aside as if to pass her while retreating from the room, and the Nightsister lutched back. The Wookiee had snatched off her arm so fast that Isolder had never even seen it.
She gazed at the bloody stump of her shoulder, and Isolder fired again. The Nightsister went down.

Ripping your arms out of your socket is ambiguous. After all, if a wookiee tears off your arm, it is out of your socket. The general meaning I got from Han was that Chewie could tear off arms. And besides, can't any old very strong human pop someone's arm out of their socket? Or am I just having delusions again?

Since he's talking to Threepio when he says this, he probably means actual dismemberment. Remember, we see Threepio's arm detached after the Tusken attack in ANH, and it doesn't look like there's alot of sturdy materiel in his arm. The outer shell doesn't connect to his upper body, so I doubt Chewie would have any trouble removing it.

The fact that he can backhand someone so that he goes flying across a room is a pretty good indicator that he can do a lot more than dislocating your shoulder.
For a time, I considered sparing your wretched little planet Cybertron.
But now, you shall witnesss ... its dismemberment!

If you are referring to the guard in the Death Star detention block, not only was he sent flying, but he killed instantly by the blow.AdmiralKanos wrote:The fact that he can backhand someone so that he goes flying across a room is a pretty good indicator that he can do a lot more than dislocating your shoulder.

No shit, you hit someone hard enought to send them to the otherside of a room they are insta-killed anyway.Darth Garden Gnome wrote:If you are referring to the guard in the Death Star detention block, not only was he sent flying, but he killed instantly by the blow.AdmiralKanos wrote:The fact that he can backhand someone so that he goes flying across a room is a pretty good indicator that he can do a lot more than dislocating your shoulder.

He did more than backhand, he kinda pushed the guy but you are right he is strong as hell. But even that does not conclusively point to being able to tear peoples arms off.AdmiralKanos wrote:The fact that he can backhand someone so that he goes flying across a room is a pretty good indicator that he can do a lot more than dislocating your shoulder.
really? I always thought he just knocked the guy out or just knocked him down allowing Luke or Han to shoot him in the confusion. Did you get that info from the movie novel? or is that something you inferred?Darth Garden Gnome wrote:If you are referring to the guard in the Death Star detention block, not only was he sent flying, but he killed instantly by the blow.
As for Isolder's post, didn't that come from the EU? where there newer and more powerful WMD's (like the sun crusher) hidden around every corner, and the writers have become infected with the same brainbugs and wanking that many fans are? I am looking more to the movies or even the movie novels.
Captain Cyran, yes a strong human with the right technique can dislocate shoulders, but I doubt they can simply just grab your wrist and pull and pop it out. And you did exactly what alot of people are doing using the word "ripping" when Solo merely said "pulling" , there is a slight difference.
Also if Solo was saying that wookies can rip or pull arms off then why not say that "droids aren't know for pulling/ripping people's arms off" instead of "droids aren't known for pulling people's arms out of their sockets".
thanks for the replies guys.

Would it (the ability to backhand ppl across a room) be a very good indicator of being able to basically rend someone limb from limb? Not that I doubt you, I just want to understand the correlation, if any.AdmiralKanos wrote:The fact that he can backhand someone so that he goes flying across a room is a pretty good indicator that he can do a lot more than dislocating your shoulder.
Couldn't a lower level to Chewie's strength be computed from that scene (if we make assumptions about the officer's weight)? Then we would just need to find the amount of force necessary to tear an average human being's arm off.Connor MacLeod wrote:Would it (the ability to backhand ppl across a room) be a very good indicator of being able to basically rend someone limb from limb? Re: Wookies and pulling peoples arms out of their sockets
Once you remove the arm from the socket, only muscles are holding it attached to you. It's not that hard to remove the arm from said being after that, especially if you're a Wookiee.Death from the Sea wrote: When did this become a essentially another brain bug/wookie-wank and evolve into ripping arms off and tearing people in half? Re: Wookies and pulling peoples arms out of their sockets
Hence why the scene I used was hardly EU Wanking. Sometimes i wonder at someones enthusisaum to throw out EU sources just beacuse of a thing called the Suncrusher.Phyre wrote:Once you remove the arm from the socket, only muscles are holding it attached to you. There's also the fact that what Chewie did was actually something that is not going to be using a lot of muscles or anywhere near his full strength. He lifted his arm to backhand that guy if I remember correctly, which only really uses the shoulder muscles. Tearing someones arm off is gonna use all his arm muscles.Srynerson wrote:Couldn't a lower level to Chewie's strength be computed from that scene (if we make assumptions about the officer's weight)? Wookiees are forbidden to use their claws in combat by social taboos and honor-codes.Sriad wrote:In the process of tearing someone's arm off, a Wookie could also bring to bear his huge tree-climbing-claws for better grip/strategic rending.
Were there any particularly noteworthy feats of Wookie strength in RotS?

I always took Han's remark as a jest, something to unnerve C-3PO. Not to say that I doubt at all that Chewie could quite efficiently strip a protocol droid of all its limbs in little time. Nonetheless I think there was a disappointing lack of Wookies removing people's limbs in ROTS. Why have a Wookie battle if it does not involve Wookies getting entirely out of hand? Maybe on the DVD.

Even if wookies can do it as casually as you scratch your ass, it's still not likely to happen in a major battle where people are shooting at each other with guns.Kenoshi wrote:I always took Han's remark as a jest, something to unnerve C-3PO. I'll concede that. Just thought it'd be bloody hilarious to see a clone trooper being beaten to death with his own arms. Might test that PG-13 rating a little too much, though.Darth Wong wrote: Even if wookies can do it as casually as you scratch your ass, it's still not likely to happen in a major battle where people are shooting at each other with guns.
