Higgs Field / Zero Point Field

Post by The Nomad »

How is the Higgs Field related to the Zero Point Field ? I know both are linked to the properties of mass and inertia, but how exactly do they relate to each other ?

In quantum dynamics your physical objects are described by fields.
These fields have in general a non-vanishing ground state energy, this ground state energy gives you the zero point energy (in fact both terms are exchangeable).
The Higgs field couples to the density of other fields, and that looks exactly like an massterm.
The Higgs field too contributes to the zero point energy.
