A Game of Thrones RPG

Post by Construct »

I've ordered the deluxe limited edition of this new roleplaying game. Unfortunately they have been pushing the publication date for the past months, starting in March and the last given was August. It seems like August will be the date and it will be published by White Wolf. It would have been even nicer if the game was made using WW's game system which I love. Now there are two versions: something called TriStat developed by Guardans' Order and the classical d20 system.

I am waiting for the PDF to be made available so that I can start studying the game and making the campaign I plan to lead for my friends.

You can see some previews here:

It looks great and I think it will be awesome. I just need to decide whether it will be worth learning TriStat as I'll need lots of extra dice for that (it uses everything from d4 to d20).

Sounds cool, though it also would have been nice if they made a PC version ;)
'Ai! ai!' wailed Legolas. 'A Balrog! A Balrog is come!'
Gimli stared with wide eyes. 'Durin's Bane!' he cried, and letting his axe fall he covered his face.
'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand.' He faltered and leaned heavily on his staff. 'What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.'

TriStat's actually a fairly good system, from everything I've read. GoO is a good company; I've been impressed with their stuff since they did BESM. Also, I thought the die size depended on the campaign, not that you needed them all for everything.

And I'm not sure what's classical about D20...it's only been around for about 5 years :D . Classic is something like GURPS or Palladium or the old Silhouette rules (or Tri-Stat).

Did they ever fix the issue with TriStat that bothered me - a single Physical stat, no distinction between fast and strong?

There's a bit of a patch in the flaws section allowing you to make yourself slower or weaker than normal for a person of your Body score. The fix that you're probably looking for - separate stats for the two - is not going to happen.

People wondering about the base TriStat system can download it for free from the Guardians of Order website. You only need one size of dice, d6 for human scale games and bigger for higher power games. Whichever dice you decide to use, everyone uses the same size.

The basic rules for the D20 system are also a free download as the SRD. You can compare the two systems to see which you like better before deciding which version of the game you want to buy.
I prepared Explosive Runes today.

Well, you get both if you buy the deluxe edition. Looks like I'll have to get some D6 then and learn TriStat. :)
