Star Wars use of 'Slo Mo'

Post by Kurgan »

I was re-watching my dvd's the past few weekends...

This is split off from a topic awhile back that I don't remember, anyway, feel free to list any other instances of slow motion that I forgot.

From the OT:

- As Vader strikes the deathblow on Obi-Wan in ANH

- The wampa's sliced arm falling to the ground in ESB

- That whole "cave" encounter with Darth Vader in ESB... from the time that Vader's shadow starts to come out until Luke reacts to seeing his own face under the shattered helmet.

- (possibly, I will have to check again) Yoda's blankets/robes collapsing as he disappears in ROTJ.

Before the SE's I swore there was a big explosion that looked to be in slo mo (Alderaan?) but no long appears so.

I don't remember any from the prequels.

I don't think this is slow motion, but it does look like slow motion due to the way they did it. Stop-motioning fabric falling down isn't exactly the easiest thing in the world ;)

Does the last TIE Fighter that pursues the Millenium Falcon (escape from the Death Star) explode in slow motion? If was pretty long.

Edit: Escape from the first Death Star, in Alderaan's orbit.

It didn't look to have any debris flying off in slow motion or anything, just an unusually large kaboom.

Perhaps that particular TIE pilot had an extra helping beans, just prior to his ill-fated mission.
