battle of startrek mafia's and starwars mafia's
Lets just say i'm a starwars fan...i'm looking for a startrek fan to defend his beloved universe...me i'm kinda of a mafia guy....watch the sopranos.....screensaver of mafia bosses stuff like that...now what really eniticed me about starwars when i first watched it was han solo running from intergalactic gangster jabba the hut.....well lets just say it was my dream come true.....i am slightly interested in star trek being as it is a good show....but i realized it lacked one major thing, a mafia, eventually i found the orion cartels i think there called (once again need star trek freak to clarify). Now the huts have a intergalactic crime ring and compete with many other petty gangsters...they ahve power but the huts are the head crime honcho's. The huts control nearly everything illegal from hauling illegal spice shipmenta to giving you twilekk slave girls they own it all. Other gangsters monopolize on certain things, like spice,or slaves but the huts have it all. They control fleets of mercanarys are rich beyond imagination and of course can kill any man they wish too. They control the smuggler world of nar-shaddaa with a populace of over 25 billion all (i think...checked star wars role playing game dark empire sourcebook). subserviant to there benevolent hut rulers. They like i said before can kill any man by sending their legions of bounty hunters to do their work. The hut crime empire is so powerfull that the new republic in dark saber had to tread carefully as so not to anger it. the hut empire survived the republic and the galactic empire and will no doubt survive the new republic......i await the trekkies response..
The hut crime empire is the most powerfull in the galaxy. Make way for its leader!

The Hutts do not have an intergalactic crime ring. Their operations are limited to a single galaxy. I really hate it when people abuse that term.Belsarius The Hut wrote:Now the huts have a intergalactic crime ring and compete with many other petty gangsters.

Allow me to quote a certain AI:
I'm not too sure what he's asking here. Is it just a request for information on ST "mafias" or how they would do against SW "mafias"? If it's the latter, then I think that SW will win. The Holonet and other FTL communications would be a vast asset to any criminal organisations, as well as technology like Holo-shrouds.
Now, ontopic:Durandal wrote: In the middle of reading that post, my brain ran out of breath.

Excessive use of punctuation, improper use of punctuation, and generally illegible posts are a violation of the board's R&R. Stop typing like an AOL netrat, or your stay here will be mercifully short. And generally filled with flames. Lots of flames. But, since I'm usually nice, I'll point you in the right direction, since you missed it the first fucking time.Belsarius The Hut wrote:hey uhh guys i know this isnt rlly supposed to be here but...whats with the ranks ubnder guys names????? are there clans in here or what1!?!?!?!!??!?!
With that being said, Star Trek has few examples of organized crime for us to study. The most promiment of these being the Orion pirates listed earlier in the thread, and possibly the Ferengi. Otherwise, we see a bunch of one-person criminal operations in existence in the Trek universe.
This is opposed to Star Wars, where we have the dealings of the various Hutts (and they could scrape together the resources to build a Death Star superlaser without the station to go with it) as well as Prince Xizor's Black Sun operation, which helped funnel funding for the Death Star II. Not to mention the thriving bounty hunting business, where there are apparently so many opportunities to get into it that one can start from the age of 12.

2070s - The Seventy-Niners ... 3500s - Fair as Death ... 4900s - Against Improbable Odds V 1.0
Remember, Black Sun (or more precisely a corporate front) transported all the raw materials to the construction site of the Death Star II for processing in secret.GrandMasterTerwynn wrote:...as well as Prince Xizor's Black Sun operation, which helped funnel funding for the Death Star II.

Ferengi
I don't think you can call the Ferengi a true crime organisation. Yes, they break the law, but they appear to avoid violent crimes, instead focusing on smuggling, money laundring and fraud (excluding the occasional exception) They thrive in the environments a Hutt would avoid - I'm not sure the Hutt would see them as true competition.

Black sun was larger than the rebellion, after it was destroyed it was reborn as black nebula which primarilly ran protection rackets on multiple star systems.

Their is also the Orion Syndicate featured in DS9, the episode where O'brien goes undercover as one of them. I'm not sure if they're related to the TOS Orion Pirates though. From what I saw in the episode, they seemed to partake in criminal activities like assasinations, robbery and prostitution (though prostitution might be legal in the federation). From what I saw, this syndicate appeared to be the largest crime organization located in the federation.Isolder74 wrote:Trek Mafia.....

where is your source on that because according to EU, more specifically Shadows Of The Empire and X-Wing: The Krytos Trap Black sun died as an organisation as Xizor's Lieutenants where Kesseled, then the organisation briefly rose as Wedge was forced to free them and beheaded again when Flirry Vorru joined Isard, but even then major parts of BS refused to rejoin and went their own way Durga The Hutt being the most notable faction.the .303 bookworm wrote:Black sun was larger than the rebellion, after it was destroyed it was reborn as black nebula which primarilly ran protection rackets on multiple star systems.

Emphasis "WAS", after Xizors castle along with most of Black suns records were destroyed the whole organization split into factions, that doesnt change the fact that at it's prime Black sun hade vast economic resources and manpower.Lord Pounder wrote:where is your source on that because according to EU, more specifically Shadows Of The Empire and X-Wing: The Krytos Trap Black sun died as an organisation as Xizor's Lieutenants where Kesseled, then the organisation briefly rose as Wedge was forced to free them and beheaded again when Flirry Vorru joined Isard, but even then major parts of BS refused to rejoin and went their own way Durga The Hutt being the most notable faction.the .303 bookworm wrote:Black sun was larger than the rebellion, after it was destroyed it was reborn as black nebula which primarilly ran protection rackets on multiple star systems.

the Orion Syndicate is the (more or less) from ENT untill VOY (IIRC) and it's one of the most (if not the most) powerfull criminal organization in the Federation (during ENT era it was for all intents and purposes the Orion goverment).

Black sun is inter-galactic while the orions are based only in the alpha quadrant, Black sun has more men, weapons, technology and stupendous amounts of cash (Even Xizor wasnt able to estimate just how much mony he had).
Unless something very odd comes up, Black sun would do an empire on the orion's.

You're going to want to learn to use paragraph breaks, capital letters, proper punctuation, and a spell-checker. Besides violating PR 1, it makes your posts painfully difficult to read.Belsarius The Hut wrote:Lets just say i'm a starwars fan...i'm looking for a startrek fan to defend his beloved universe...me i'm kinda of a mafia guy....watch the sopranos.....screensaver of mafia bosses stuff like that...now what really eniticed me about starwars when i first watched it was han solo running from intergalactic gangster jabba the hut.....well lets just say it was my dream come true.....i am slightly interested in star trek being as it is a good show....but i realized it lacked one major thing, a mafia, eventually i found the orion cartels i think there called (once again need star trek freak to clarify).
