Is a turbolaser a laser? Is a blaster rifle a rifle? Names mean little.
I always figured it was a directed energy bomb of some sort, designed for subsurface detonation in order to knock out surface structures. Its not designed for space useage, but it works just as well.

And Red, it was more like 60 posts per day two weeks ago, and got as high as 80 some days iirc. So it'd provide a fairly decent amount of cover-fire, like an MG-42 that emits thin streams of smoke.

I happen to like how he immediately follows with 'That was no mistake' right after saying 'joules of power', though his positive assertion that Slave I uses fission is amusing in that he goes on about the importance of fusion when that's what it in fact uses (also odd that he doesn't wank over M/AM. Kids are getting less educated on what's available to exagerrate, I guess).

I don't know. Maybe it creates some seismic distortion of space-time. A "Gravitational Wave Pulse", GWP *writes that down in collection of sci-fi tech that might come in handy some time*. Or maybe the effect of the weapon, when used on the ground, resembles earthquakes or something...

It may be named after its intended purpose, rather than anything else. If it's designed to cause seismic problems, say through directing energy into a fault line, it could well be called a seismic charge even though it does not work directly through vibration.
