Did he just say that Seismic Charges won't work in space? Wow! That has got to be the most stupid fucking thing I've heard all week! How the fuck DOES a seismic charge work in space anyway BTW? I always figured it was a directed energy bomb of some sort, designed for subsurface detonation in order to knock out surface structures. Its not designed for space useage, but it works just as well.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

OK, I wrote the little wanker.
I just wanted to let you know that Mike Wong posted your email on his bbs and we all had a great laugh at it.
> First of all, there is no way Slave one can create

Who ever said Slave-1 used fission?

Or something better like the exotic ultra high density fuel in Star Wars known as "hypermatter"
> and the SD might have more beam power output, but it
> doesnt mean its more powerfull.
Umm, yes it does. More power output DOES equal more powerful.
> It takes a lot of energy to create a laser, and only
> a small portion of that is actual distructive power.
And you got this information from where? SW weapons have nothing in common with lasers anyway.
> The shields are another matter. They may be able to
> dissapate that much energy, but they do not stop
> kinetic weapons.
Ray shields supposedly don't but SW DOES have particle shields. The Death Star wasn't even scratched by the exploding debris of Alderaan.
> Even star wars torpedos go straight through,
Ray sheilds ONLY. Not particle shields.
> a photon torpedo wouldnt even notice the shields.
Shields that are orders of magnitude stronger than those photon torps normally encounter?
> A fighter can fly through the shields with no
> problem!
SW shields are highly selective in what they let through. Example: the shields in the underwater Gungan city kept out the water while letting people through.
> Further more officially, deflectors are immune to
> lasers,
No, thats the least reasonable of many different interpretations of a single line of dialogue and is disproved every time the E-D encountered the Borg who use LASERS.
In "Loud as a Whisper" Picard utterly refused to enter an area that had reported laser activity on the grounds that he would not endanger his ship.
In "Suddenly Human" Geordi tapped the impulse engines to divert more power to the shields in preparation to fight an enemy armed with lasers.
In "Conundrum" lasers from the sentry pods from a civilization 100 years behind the Federation were enough of a threat to warrant raising full forward shields.
In many different episodes we've seen that intense sunlight is a threat to Federation starships.
> so only on the TURBO lasers would some energy

> and that would be the plasma used to "Turbo" charge

Where did you get this 3% nonsense? And what does traveling warp 5 have to do with it?
> Galaxy class Reactor (Warpcore) can generate 3
> billion GIGA-joules of power!
Joules are a unit of ENERGY, not power. Power is measured in watts. And if you are refering to Data's statement in True-Q, he never finished the statement so we have no idea what he was really saying.
Besides, according to the ROTS ICS book, SW turbolasers gerenate more power in one shot than the E-D did in its lifetime.
> This was not a mistake. Slave 1's seismic charges
> WOULD NOT WORK IN SPACE!
Yet its canon that they DID work in space so your argument that it is based entirely on the name "seismic charge" is faulty.
> First of all you NEED FREAKING AIR for a concussion
> missle to work. As all of us
> with half a brain know, space HAS NO AIR.
And as everyone with a brain ALSO knows, the seismic charge is NOT a concussion missle.
> Even a basic Galaxy class phasers have a total
> destructive power of 50,000 TERA-WATTS.
1) Based on what?
2) Thats nothing compared to the Acclamators heavy turbolasers which are rated at 200 gigaTONS.
> Imperial weapons are a fraction of this, because
> Imperial systems are so inefficiant with power.
Prove it.

I repeat--who said their power was fission based?
> Plus, Paramount enlisted the help of numerous

Then how do they continuously come up with utterly ridiculous concepts like finding a crack in a black hole's event horizion. The EH is not a solid object that can have a crack. Its a mathematically defined radius.
> Star Wars had gotten no such technical help or

Neither has Trek. Their vaunted "tech advisors" have nothing but ART backgrounds.

How many friends could a random AOL dumbass even have available to incite invasion? I don't think we have much to fear from packs of YuGiOh cards...
And Red, it was more like 60 posts per day two weeks ago, and got as high as 80 some days iirc. So it'd provide a fairly decent amount of cover-fire, like an MG-42 that emits thin streams of smoke.

Hrmm, ghetto addendum:
I happen to like how he immediately follows with 'That was no mistake' right after saying 'joules of power', though his positive assertion that Slave I uses fission is amusing in that he goes on about the importance of fusion when that's what it in fact uses (also odd that he doesn't wank over M/AM. Kids are getting less educated on what's available to exagerrate, I guess).

I don't know. Maybe it creates some seismic distortion of space-time. A "Gravitational Wave Pulse", GWP *writes that down in collection of sci-fi tech that might come in handy some time*. Or maybe the effect of the weapon, when used on the ground, resembles earthquakes or something...Junghalli wrote:How the fuck DOES a seismic charge work in space anyway BTW? It may be named after its intended purpose, rather than anything else. If it's designed to cause seismic problems, say through directing energy into a fault line, it could well be called a seismic charge even though it does not work directly through vibration.Junghalli wrote:How the fuck DOES a seismic charge work in space anyway BTW?
