Of course, it would have to be an ass-backwards Oberth-style vessel that is quickly obliterated by hostile aliens. Who then get their asses handed to them by heavy-duty Earth starships.

I don't know why, but when I read the title to this topic I thought to myself 'Discovery'. Usually I think of stupid names like 'Hood' or 'Warspite', but in this case 'Discovery' seems to fit the bill perfectly.

Shagohod is an odd choice given it means "treading behemoth".

I'd go with RN names that aren't too militaristic. I really can't stand naming ships after people most the time unless they truly earnt it, which is likely why I dislike most modern USN names. Places are okay for names, but ideas and mythos work better such as Vigilant or Griffin.

The role of the ship should dictate the name.
