You've eaten most of the good stuff on the English menu. Unless you encounter a good cook, the experience is mostly going to be down hill from there (unless they are cooking foreign food).mr friendly guy wrote:Tried an English breakfast while transiting in Heathrow airport. Seemed nice enough with bangers and bash and hash browns.
The Excellent Prismatic Spray. For when you absolutely, positively must kill a motherfucker. Accept no substitutions. Contact a magician of the later Aeons for details. Some conditions may apply.
There's lots of sausages that are fine, Lancashire hotpot is okay, though Shepherd's pie is probably the best. That's essentially a load of minced up meat in gravy with mashed potato on top, with the top of the mashed potato crisped under a grill.
Oh and Chicken Tikka Masala was invented here, so that's national cuisine, you french bitches.

Shepherd pie as made in Australia taste nice. I wonder if English made Shepherd pie would be better, since it originated from there.

Who the hell in his right mind would think of boiling it?zippy wrote:Steak and Kidney pudding, thick cut chips and peas. Certainly better than boiled horse flesh.
It is good raw, or failing that grilled. Boiling it makes it lose all its flavor.

Cattle and sheep in Australia are free range stuff, mainly due to the fact that the ground over here cant support many head of cattle/sheep per area. So we make up for it with lots of ground for them to cover.Elfdart wrote:Oz has great grillers (it also helps that their cows aren't doped up on tetracycline like American ones),
It also helps considerably that not many of the sick cattle/sheep generally survive till rounding up. They also use choppers to round cattle up

A proper Sunday Roast is up there as one of the better meals throughout the world, I think. Though they CAN be cooked awfully (pre frozen Yorkshire pudding and roast potatos are a big no-no).
...and English Breakfast is not right without a bit of black pudding (which I believe our German chums are also partial to).
That said, I'd rather eat a Chinese meal any day of the week. But China aint in the EU (yet), so they don't count.

Soft.
BBQ all winter as well. Shit, we even drag BBQs along to our LANs down here in Tassie.
Yes, those are power points and cat 5 sockets along there with meat right by them. Mmmmm. Meat.
Don't ask me...

Still, I'm with you, grillin' is my primary method of cooking meat year-round, and my Weber Q was chosen because of portability ... throw that baby in the back of the truck with the small propane tank and I can tailgate anywhere.

On the topic ...
He needs to try the steak and kidney pie around Ironbridge - it's got real steak in it, for starters! That won me over to British food; well that and a good pub ribs or bread pudding.
Of course, that makes me a single British food supporting in a place where it's a favorite pastime to bash British food.

Fuck Ando, I grill in the snow! Last winter's blizzard had me tossing a nice thick london broil 'on the barbie' just to break my cabin fever. The heat melted a nice spot around the grill too.

English breakfasts, beautiful rich casseroles, pies, suet puddings, roast dinners with lashings of gravy and yorkshire puddings.
Luuuuvvvvvvvlllllyyyyy.
Anyone in London should try Rules in Covent Garden for some seriously great English cuisine.
I guess it's like any country's food. Done well, it's fantastic - done badly, it's very poor. I've eaten in some pretty rank restaurants in France, although I do like their cuisine in general.

Grilling in sleet is the true measure of manhood. I prefer grilling in cold weather since when it's hot (In TX that means April-November.) I end up drinking so much to stay cool, by the time the food is done, I don't feel like eating.Col. Crackpot wrote:Fuck Ando, I grill in the snow! Chicken Pie with lashings of gravey and roast potatoes or chips.
Roast Lamb dinners.
Massive Yorkshire puddings with roast beef and veg inside of them.
To name but a few gorgeous examples of British cuisine...

Hmm British foood. I remember my time in merry ol blighty. The food I had in London was, at best, average and fucking expensive or appalling and fucking expensive. Outside of London the food was not too bad, on the whole dishes were well prepared and thought out, and resonably priced.
