Federation Diplomacy

Post by Vyraeth »

Note: I've rambled abit in this post, but I think it's all for good reason, my
main question is at the very bottom of all this, so if you don't feel like a long read, please feel free to skip ahead.

Just a quick note before I bring up my idea, but kudos to Mr. Wong for the awesome website chocked full of both scientific and canon information about Star Wars.

I am a total Star Warks geek (and the Empire is definately my favorite faction) and reading through the website was enjoyable as well as informative.

However, while browsing, I noticed that there are several convincing arguements for the Empire's success against the Federation, but unless this is a glaring oversight on my part (I have definately read a good majority of the website, and have even searched for my answer), it seems to me that serious consideration to other parties allying with the Federation in it's fight against the Empire has not been given.

Just to clear up a few things from the get go. I have considered that the speed of the Empire's attack would make any call from help from the Federation irrelevant to save the Federation, but I don't think this neccessarily covers the ragtag elements left over of the Federation after the invasion, and the various force concentrations of allied Star Trek powers that would move to drive out the Empire.

Also to clarify, I am not too familair with Star Trek (I've seen a dozen or so episodes of TNG, and a handful of episodes of Voyager), but as I understand it, the Klingons, Romulans, and Federation allied for a war against the Dominion and the Cardassians. I believe it is feasible to assume that these major powers (the Domion and Cardassians included), as well as players such as the Ferengi Alliance would form a war effort to push the Empire out of their galaxy. I would assume other powers involved would be people like the Breen Confederacy, Gorn Imperium, Hirogen Hunting Party, and whatever other feasible Star Trek power that would have a plausible interest in keeping an aggressive and powerful opponent like the Empire in it's own space.

Now again, I know seem to be clarifying alot, but I am more or less pulling out these Empires from my ass (I've seen them in various Star Trek and non-Star Trek related but MODDed videogames), so I'm not sure if any of these powers are gone, or if they have some ingrained racial hatred of the Federation (I have read comparisons on the website of the Klingon Empire to the USSR and the Romulan Star Empire to Red China, but that clearly doesn't disqualify them from a military alliance with the Federation against the Empire).

Now, I understand why Mr. Wong may not have spent the time to debate all these probabilities in his website, he's clearly a busy family man, and I would assume, in what I think is a logical manner, that it is far easier to analyze a specific Star Trek race then to compensate for an entire Star Trek galaxy). And I apologize if HE HAS written a section of his website dedicated to this idea, and I have missed it.

Also, one more thing (sorry if I appear to be jumping over the place), I understand that the Dominion is in the Delta Quadrant and only linked to Federation space via the Bajoran wormhole, but I am not quite familair with the locations of other Star Trek powers in relation to the Federation. If I have proposed races which would be far too out of the way to matter in such a military alliance, then please discard them.

In a short, few line summary, I am basically asking the members of his forum if they think that the other major powers in Star Trek could substantially delay or even prevent the Empire from an invasion of Federation space, and ultimately the Star Trek galaxy.

Or alternatively, is there really nothing to save the Trekkies from the mighty Empire? ;-).

Thanks in advance.

Just a note

Sorry about posting to my own thread without waiting for replies, but just to clarify, I haven't seen any episodes of Voyager but I have seen a handful of epsidoes of DS9 (gotta love SpikeTV).

I couldn't find the edit button or else I wouldn't of bothered with a second post, so I assume there isn't one. (If I missed it, please go easy on me, it's late in the morning.)

Again, thanks in advance.

Fair enough, I suppose. If anyone has a more detailed explanation, I'd be glad to read it.

The whole ST galaxy (without the Q) wouldnt stand a chance against the Coruscant sector fleet, sendinghalf a dozen Star destroyers (4victory class 2 imp class) would be high overkill.

And this has been discussed many times before, it would take hundreds or thousands to one odds to destroy a imperial class SD, including the borg.

Honestly, it's been done over and over again. Since the major Trek powers are all roughly equal tech-wise, and the Empire vastly outclasses them in terms of firepower, speed, numbers, martial training, combat experience, resolve, defense and just flat out badassitude, having them all gang up vs the Empire simply means more stuff for the Imperials to blow to space dust. None of them possess the kind of firepower needed to stop a full-scale Imperial assault.

The biggest problem is getting the balkanized alpha quad to work together.

Next to that the miracle of finding enough warm bodies for suicide missions against star destroyers in fragile under armed ships is easy.

According to all calculations done by reasonable people (note : reasonable) it would take all the star trek universe (barring the absurd omnipotent and omniscient who really have better things to do) to take on just a small portion of the fleet let alone super weapons or ground combat where the difference becomes too great to overcome.

Second biggest problem. FT speed, your massive allience will take weeks to gather togther, meanwhile a dozen ISD's have zipped around and glass the prospective homeworlds, then intercepted said fleets and killed them in route.

The Klingons were already Federation allies, they already hate the Cardassians, and they didn't want the Dominion butting in on their turf. The Romulans signed a non-aggression pact with the Dominion, and Sisko had to use trickery-- he ordered the assassination of the Romulan embassador to the Dominion, then doctored a recording of the assassination so the Romulans would think the Dominion was responsible. In a Federation-Galactic Empire war, diplomacy wouldn't be useful in gaining new allies unless the Federation can demonstrate it has a good chance of winning.

Besides, what makes you think the Empire isn't going to try to find allies among the AQ and GQ powers? The Dominion might ally with the Empire after Vader demonstrates his powers-- makes the Dominion fleet play bumper cars in a very destructive manner-- and offer the use of their bases, in exchange for protection and certain technologies. The Cardassians might do the same, as well as the Breen, and anyone else who hates the Federation.
Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.

Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.

They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

Been there, done that, and in the end...the combined force of the ST Galaxy (barring the wanking powers) make it a two day conquest instead of one.

Ah, wow, Imperial might was always impressive.

I only gave credence to this idea because of my unfamilairity with Star Trek, I thought people like Species 8472 or the Borg might even the odds abit, but apparently not.

Thanks for the replies, and to the one person who pointed out FT speed, I did consider that, but I also though that EVEN CONSIDERING the Empire's high FT speeds, the rest of the galaxy would be able to mobilize some sort of assault force.

As to the Empire allying with other powers, I highly doubt it unless the Breen are humans (and I know the Dominion aren't), the Empire is an xenophobic Imperial power, unless it felt that such alliances were neccessary (and given that you think a sector fleet in Star Wars can annihilate whole navies), I doubt they would even bother to associate themselves with these other powers (that is of course, pure speculation based on some reasoning of past behavior).

Anyhow, I suppose we can let this thread rest for now. Again, thanks for taking the time to read and respond. I appreciate it.

Thanks again.

The only good Federation Diplomacy would do in this fight is if they can negotiate a less harsh occupation agreement with the Empire.

Good luck with that. The Empire would definitely use "Aggressive Negotiations".

Problem then being that Federation would be in no place to negotiate with the Empire. The Empire would have no reason to negotiate for any terms other than their own.
