The new Mike_6002 be banned thread

Post by Sea Skimmer »

He's promise to shape up hasn't happened. Its time for action. For this I have created a new poll as many have changed their minds.

Ban him. He has done nothing but exhibit trollish behaviors as far as actual posts. He has neared my own posts per day, which is quite a feat. And only one in every twenty or thirty posts has actual content or meaning to it. I say full out ban the motherfucker. Not to mention the insulsts for no apparent reason.

Temporary. Try and teach him a lesson first, and if it doesn't work make it permanent.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

We have tried teaching him a lesson. It hasn't worked. I seriously think it's time for a permanent ban.

I once visited a board that relied heavely on temp bans. First you get a warning, then a 24 hour ban, then a three day ban, then a perm ban. Some of the best posters had been minor trolls at one point or another. A temporary "spank" does miracles for a persons attitude when posting. The problem with boards like this is that people think they can act and say whatever they want, so long as they don't make direct threats, without being punished. He has been warned, give him a three day ban. If he comes back, then we see how he acts, and if he doesn't, then it is no great loss.

I guess that makes sense. A temporary ban may do him some good, but how loing after that can we keep hm around? If he acts up within twenty-four hours, I say ban him altogether. But that is just mny opinion.

People banned are put on probation for awhile. There is no set time, but the banee must prove to the baner that he/she has changed his/her ways.

Okay. I was just wondering. Thanks for the info.

I'd be fine with a permanent ban at this point. However the vote is tied. In that case I'd say make it a 1-3 days, followed by a similar length of time of evaluation. If he reverts, that's it.

He's been warned about his spamming since his 150th post by me and soon after by others. We've been more then fair and given him one chance already. I'm not big on what would be a third chance.

We could also try deleting all or a good number of his bullshit posts. He doesn't deserve his current post count.

I've been keeping a close eye on all his posts in the STvsSW forum. Problem is, the bulk of his spam is in *this* forum.

It helps that the mods there are a little more independent. All of them can ban people, so thet can keep up with the trolls they ban.

Also folks, please note, while I here people complaining about his spamming, they don't seem to have a problem repling to his spam. This incourages the him and compounds the problem. Many spammers are people that want attention. If they post a thread, ignore it. Don't respond and don't tell him to quit spamming, just ignore him.

You have no idea how long it takes a mod to delete posts. If I tried to delete all of his posts, it would take me several hours at least. The only way to mass delete someones posts is to delete the threads he/she posted in. Since in Mike_6002's case that includes most of the threads posted over that last couple of days, I won't do that.

I've actually been wondering why the system does that. One can post a reply in a matter of seconds, but it takes at least half a damned minute to delete something.

Can't mods just reduce post count without deleting posts, tho?

He's beat me in posts after how many days?...geez, not to mention. I've read a number of posts, and although somewhat ammusing sometimes they have no purpose, temporary ban. See if that works, if it doesn't squish the bugger with the heel of the Imperial Smack-down

I cannot comment as to the accuracy of that assessment.

It is just the design of this board. The problem is that while can look up every post he has ever made in a matter of seconds, to delete them I have to go to each post individualy and delete them.

I've gone through a number of his posts and noticed the same thing. The problem is that I cannot go through all the threads posted so I wait for threads like this to pop up. Then I go through the complained about member's posts and find out what went wrong. Individually there is nothing wrong with Mike_6002's posts. It is the fact that they add up to nothing but a load of crap.

Everyone makes spam posts. I have no problem with that because it adds flavor to the board. Without those it would be dull and lifeless. The problems arise when a member's posts are nothing but crap.

He is annoying, and I can't stand how he latched onto Shep and just worships him blindly (or so it seems). I guess I see now how he does mostly post spam, but I think a temporary ban is fairer. That way, you give him a clear-cut warning and maybe he'll listen this time. Some people need action taken against them before they understand; Mike might be one of those people who learn the hard way, since our verbal warnings have done nothing.

I say give him a temporary ban, and make it absolutely clear that if he doesn't fix his behaviour, he'll be banned permanantly.

I say give him a slap on his wrist and give him a ban for a couple of days and see if he shapes up.

It's ovewrwhelmingly in favor of doing something. There are only three people that want him left alone versus 23 that want something done. Whatever we do, let's do something.
